X and lambda fiber positioning completed. Focused collimation mirrors. Even though we were of course closed, it's worth mentioning that around midnight the wind speed picked up substantially. At the same time the dust counts increased to over 20,000 counts and the humidity increased to as much as 87% (and still rising?). We could smell smoke, either from the church fire or the Carlsbad fire. (Thanks to Russet for the heads-up and the updates regarding the weather.) We checked the 1.0 um dust count in the enclosure with the handheld counter and found the integrated dust count (over 1 minute) to be 8478 counts. The humidity had spiked to above 85% and was still not on a decreasing trend, so we did not attempt to induce a pressure differential with the HVAC according to the procedure under the Weather Closure page. Dmitry said the smoke in High Rolls was pretty bad. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- 05:35Z - Took an imager bias as an aliveness check and to make sure things are responsive. 05:37Z - Took a spectro bias. 05:43Z - Took another spectro bias since the exposure number in the header of b2 and r2 in the first exposure disagreed with the filename. 05:45Z - Homed and relaxed mirrors. All errors acceptable according to the homing/relaxing procedure tolerances. Numbers: A = 4600 B = -2000 C = 2650 D = -12450 E = -6500 F = -6550 Primary Home/Relax ------------------ After the first iteration we obtained the following errors for E, F, D: E = 0 F = 50 D = 0 During the movements of A, B, and C actuators, it took 6 attempts before B was in spec. During the previous 5 iterations, A and C were in spec and the B error was in the range of 300 microsteps. On 6th try, we obtained the following A, B, C errors: A = 0 B = -100 C = 0 Secondary Home/Relax -------------------- After the first iteration we obtained the following errors for the transverse actuators D and E: D = 0 E = -50 It took two iterations to obtain errors for axial actuators A, B, and C less than 250 microsteps. On the first attempt, B was -436 microsteps, but A and B were in spec at -20 and -83 microsteps, respectively. After the second attempt we obtained the following errors: A = -39 B = -83 C = 43 When the `m4l' command was issued, it froze and did not come back with the mirror numbers. We quit out of the IOP session and tried again and still had the same freezing issue. We exited from the TCC interpreter to the $ prompt and typed `HOST TCC_SEC' to try to talk to the secondary mirror controller and the reply was a bunch of numbers (see Problems section of the log MJD 54624, June 6th, for an example of the gibberish output). `m4l' was then issued for a third time and mirror numbers were issued. Another `HOST TCC_SEC' gave the normal "connection established" message with the : prompt. X positioning of fibers with Cartridge 5 ---------------------------------------- FLAT-00053696 on SoS shows the Xmin - Xmax range for b1, r1, b2, and r2 encompassing the specified ranges in the spectro monthly checkout procedure. In each case, the Xmin for each camera is a few pixels lower than the Xmin listed in the table, and the Xmax is a few pixels greater than the values listed in the table. No adjustments were made. Lambda positioning with Cartridge 5 ----------------------------------- ARC-00053697 on SoS shows the Wmin - Wmax range for b1, r1, b2, and r2. They are all in spec within about 2 Angstroms at most. Focusing collimation mirrors ---------------------------- Collimation results under the Problems section. Adjusted the r1 and r2 cameras according to collimate's suggested moves, and then checked the b1 and b2 focus.
