APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday June 24, 2008 (MJD 54642) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Howard Brewington Kaike Pan Dan Oravetz (swing) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We had clouds, rain during night, never open the telescope. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- All systems checked and working properly. Cartridge 3 is mounted. Night: ------ 03:15Z Fans on, louvers open, door cracked. 06:20Z Rain sensor went off. Close door, louvers, and Fans off. 06:30Z During past two days, Dan reported that the wsigma of b1 is in yellow even when collimation procedure results indicates it is in perfect focus. We moved piston a few thousand steps on both directions (from in focus settings), and take arc spectra to see how wsigma responses to movements. When Wsigmas of r1, b2, r2 response to movements in the same way, increase or decrease together, wsigma of b1 could behave differently. We checked sharpness of images, but could not get any conclusive words although there are indications that images are sharper when wsigma are smaller. Moving piston on either direction did make wsigma of b1 became bigger. so the wsigma of b1 is indeed in its minimum whenit is in collimation focus alghout it is in yellow range. But we also noticed that the wsigma values of b1 was much smaller in some nights. In this aspect, it is not in its minimum. Anyway, we will keep our eye on this, and see what happen after replacing the triplet. 10:00Z endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 53803, plate -9999 ------- 00:16 53803 0.0 bias 00:36 53804 0.0 bias ----- sequence 53805, plate 2901 ------- 01:03 53805 10.0 flat 01:06 53806 2.0 arc 01:09 53807 3.0 arc 01:11 53808 3.0 arc 01:27 53809 10.0 flat 01:30 53810 2.0 arc ----- sequence 53811, plate -9999 ------- 01:47 53811 0.0 bias ----- sequence 53811, plate 2901 ------- 06:02 53812 10.0 flat 06:05 53813 2.0 arc 06:15 53814 10.0 flat 06:17 53815 2.0 arc 06:27 53816 10.0 flat 06:30 53817 2.0 arc 08:50 53818 10.0 flat 08:53 53819 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:43Z 73 31 14 270 (W) 1467 - clouds 00:15Z 72 31 14 306 (NW) 1499 - clouds 00:47Z 69 32 11 284 (WNW) 1537 - clouds 01:18Z 68 32 2 297 (WNW) 1525 - partly cloudy 02:04Z 66 37 7 87 (E) 1312 - cloudy 02:36Z 63 38 13 70 (ENE) 1416 - 03:08Z 62 36 13 82 (E) 1387 - 03:40Z 62 35 9 107 (ESE) 1485 - 04:12Z 61 37 8 90 (E) 1609 - 04:44Z 60 41 10 92 (E) 2281 - 05:17Z 60 39 15 111 (ESE) 2032 - 05:49Z 61 39 18 124 (SE) 1947 - 06:19Z 60 40 20 136 (SE) 1722 - 06:52Z 60 39 19 163 (SSE) 1202 - 07:24Z 58 41 20 158 (SSE) 1334 - 07:56Z 57 42 15 188 (S) 1941 - 08:28Z 58 41 18 184 (S) 2652 - 09:00Z 59 39 12 195 (SSW) 3381 - 09:32Z 59 39 8 180 (S) 3464 - 10:06Z 58 39 17 151 (SSE) 2561 - cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 03:15Z - Began ventilation.
