APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday October 3, 2010 (MJD 55473) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Audrey Simmons Steph Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Plate 4093 observed (but not yet done) before we had to close for high humidity. Although we had hopes conditions would improve, they never did. We had high humidity, clouds or rain. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- No problems noted at the telescope during afternoon checkout BOSS focus checked, test exposures taken. 00:28Z - Ventilation started, although humidity was trending the wrong direction. Nearby radar return at sunset, and humidity approaching closure limit. We delayed opening. Night: ----- 01:35Z - Dewpoint depression staying around 3 degrees, so we decided to open and start a fill. 02:00Z - Dewpoint depression below 3 :( Bare aluminum surfaces still felt dry, so we decided to stay open. Cartridge 10, plate 4093 - BOSS ------------------------------- GSOGTF Disabled fiber 10 (known to be bad) The humidity went up during the first exposure, but we stayed open while frequent touch tests indicated bare Al surfaces were still dry. Eventually, the combination of humidity, clouds, approaching rain and poor seeing forced us to close. ------------------------------------------------------------ MJD b1 r1 b2 r2 Texp Sum Plugfile ------------------------------------------------------------ 55473 2.3 5.9 2.2 5.2 900.8 15.6 4093-55472-01 55473 0.6 1.6 0.7 1.5 900.8 4.4 4093-55472-01 55473 0.5 1.1 0.4 0.8 900.8 2.8 4093-55472-01 55473 0.6 1.6 0.6 1.1 900.8 3.9 4093-55472-01 ------------------------------------------------------------ 4.0 10.2 3.9 8.6 3603.2 --> 26.7 ------------------------------------------------------------ The plate is not yet done. 03:26Z - Closed enclosure.
