APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday June 11, 2002 (MJD 52437) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Atsuko Nitta Night: Dan Long, Pete Newman England: David Seaman, Danny Mills, Rio Ferdinand, Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole (Wayne Bridge 84), David Beckham (capt), Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Trevor Sinclair, Emile Heskey (Teddy Sheringham 68), Michael Owen (Darius Vassell 77). Nigeria: Vincent Enyeama, Joseph Yobo, Isaac Okoronkwo, Ifeanyi Udeze, Efetobore Sodje, Justice Christopher, Jay-Jay Okocha (capt), James Obiorah, Julius Aghahowa, Benedict Akwuegbu, Femi Opabunmi (Pius Ikedia 86). ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science with standard priorities. Advance to Round of 16. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Weather prevented science. Nigeria 0, England 0. From Group F, England and Sweden progress to the Round of 16, Argentina and Nigeria go home. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Variable cloud at sunset, so we planned on starting with spectroscopy. We opened, filled the spectro dewars, enjoyed the sunset, looked up, saw virga, and closed again. Within half an hour, the sky was overcast. As Dan said, "it was deja vu all over again" from last night. The clouds cleared around 07:00Z, but the 1u dust counts spiked up to over 6000 as the surface winds swung east and the humidity rose (probably triggering pine tree reproductive urges). When the dust dropped, the clouds returned. At 08:40Z watcher reported an imager ion pump pressure critical error. 'cc imstat' showed 0.22uTorr holding steady and the error did not recur. By the time clouds and dust abated for sure (about 09:20Z), we had less than an hour until twilight, visibly atrocious seeing from the pier and a warm telescope, so we decided there was very little gain in opening and did not. Here is a summary of imager LN2 fills for the night, with slightly more precise weights than in earlier emails: Time Interval LN2 transfered UT hh:mm Lb ----- -------- -------------- 21:55 ??:??
