APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday May 3, 2003 (MJD 52763) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Night: Atsuko Kleinman Steph Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Two plates completed before clouds shut us down completely. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- r1 focus was out of tolerance and adjusted. Night: ------ Wind gusts and dust kep us closed until shortly after sunset. 02:44Z Cartridge 2, plate 1302 This plate already had signal and a smear done. We used an FK5 since we were unsure of focus, and were in twilight. FK5 was at the edge of fiber 10. Finished this plate with a total exposure tonight of 2100 s (in addition to the previous night's exposures). Clouds & poor seeing kept the efficiency to 50 percent, with excursions to 30 percent. 03:51Z Cartridge 3, plate 1222 Stars on slew. Poor seeing kept our efficiency in the 30-50 percent range. Wind gusts started to increase during the first exposure. We also saw orographic clouds start to form in the north. Still, we were able to finish this plate with a total exposure time of 5400 s. We did have an error message about the flat field screeens that we are sure resulted from a wind gust (see the problems section). A smear was taken, but did not have high enough S/N to be declared done. 06:08Z Cartridge 6, plate 1317 Stars on slew. We never even got to start our first exposure because of the orographic clouds creeping out of the north. That was pretty much it for the night. The clouds never let up. endNight -doSpectro -doTpm rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3930 23:16Z 23:31Z 100 O -80.27 -76.59 38 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 20763, plate -9999 ------- 22:53 20763 0.0 bias ----- sequence 20764, plate 1334 ------- 23:14 20764 10.0 flat 23:17 20765 2.1 arc 23:20 20766 2.1 arc 23:31 20767 2.1 arc 23:33 20768 2.1 arc ----- sequence 20769, plate 1302 ------- 02:56 20769 10.0 flat 02:59 20770 2.0 arc 03:17 20771 900.1 target 03:41 20772 1200.1 target ----- sequence 20773, plate 1222 ------- 03:58 20773 10.0 flat 04:00 20774 2.0 arc 04:36 20775 1800.1 target 05:11 20776 1800.1 target 05:43 20777 1800.1 target 05:51 20778 240.0 smear 05:55 20779 10.0 flat 05:59 20780 2.0 arc ----- sequence 20781, plate 1317 ------- 06:17 20781 10.0 flat 06:19 20782 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:06Z 2 1302 315.12 0.0003 58.77 0.0016 143.04 -0.0031 1.000180 04:07Z 3 1222 -19.38 0.0037 65.66 0.0016 163.49 -0.0007 1.000230 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL6382 Stays: JL6383 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 22:59Z 1 1334 1.00009 -888 249 -275 121 30.0 14.4 26 269 03:06Z 2 1302 1.00018 -1776 -516 -200 315 58.8 11.8 27 251 - 2.2 04:07Z 3 1222 1.00023 -2270 -941 -200 -19 65.7 11.6 21 260 - 3.5 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:15Z 60 12 27 272 (W) 1246 - pcl 22:48Z 62 12 24 247 (WSW) 1919 - pcl 23:20Z 60 12 27 256 (WSW) 2367 - pcl 23:52Z 59 10 33 253 (WSW) 2595 - pcl 00:24Z 57 9 19 286 (WNW) 2033 - pcl 01:17Z 56 8 22 253 (WSW) 1702 - pcl 01:49Z 53 5 21 248 (WSW) 1628 - pcl 02:20Z 53 5 16 247 (WSW) 1460 - pcl 02:54Z 53 2 29 246 (WSW) 1542 - pcl 03:24Z 53 2 27 236 (SW) 1413 - pcl 03:54Z 53 2 29 255 (WSW) 1150 - pcl 04:25Z 52 2 31 245 (WSW) 1174 - pcl 04:58Z 51 1 23 251 (WSW) 1113 - pcl 05:28Z 50 1 19 244 (WSW) 1147 - mcl 05:59Z 49 1 24 254 (WSW) 1218 - mcl 06:31Z 48 0 22 262 (W) 1219 - mcl 07:03Z 47 1 20 260 (W) 1389 - mcl 07:35Z 47 2 23 263 (W) 1290 - mcl 08:08Z 45 2 22 268 (W) 1404 - mcl 08:40Z 44 2 24 264 (W) 1432 - mcl 09:12Z 44 0 27 262 (W) 1308 - mcl 09:44Z 43 2 19 260 (W) 1292 - mcl 10:17Z 43 3 21 265 (W) 1311 - mcl 10:49Z 42 5 38 268 (W) 1421 - mcl ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:40Z Blowers & cone fans on.
