Other than that there were no problems tonight. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: Got the following error from watcher after loading the tapes: archLastErr-1 (Drive 1 error: Unit Attention: Reset Occured: 2003-09-30 00:06:40Z) However, everything seemed to be ready to go. The imager bias proceeded normally and the frames appeared to be archived properly. No spectro collimation done as the imager was mounted. 01:30Z MCP connection lost, soft reboot didn't help, but after hard rebooting, everything went back to normal. Night: ----- We started with spectroscopy (there is a small moon), 01:10Z cart 2, plt 1424 mounted, fk5 used to find guide stars. 01:47Z When pressed gtoField, We got an error message: error reading file11: Connection reset by peer while executing "error $msg" om within "if {$w == $tkPriv(buttonWindow)} { set tkPriv(buttonWindow) "" $w config -relief $tkPriv(relief) if {($w == $tkPriv(window)) && ([$w cget -state] ..." (procedure "tkButtonUp" line 3) invoked from within "tkButtonUp .sgui.gotofield.go" (command bound to event) Another go to field was fine. Plate done with one exposure (in addition to previous from the past nights). 02:43Z cart 9 plt 1029 mounted. Fk5 used. Plate done with 3 exposures. There is lightning and a big cloud north west of us, it's still photometric, but we decided not to put imager in a danger. We stick witrh spectroscopy for a while. 03:51Z French wanted us to put cart 8 as a next one, so we did :). 04:10Z Cart 8 plt 1104 mounted, stars on slew. Done with 3 exposures. And ... we got some clouds. 05:35Z Cart 6 plt 1106 mounted, stars on slew. Done with 3 longer than usual exposures. Looks like we can do some imaging - it's photometric and probably will stay this way for the rest of the night. 07:30Z Imager mounted. --------------- Setting up for strip 82 N. Run 4157. Good since the beginning (frame 10, lambda -165.6), science starts on frame 32, lambda -162. We didn't clear offsets after doing spectroscopy and nuErr is 11. We keep imaging with that error. 08:00Z There are some clouds at the horizon visible in the cloud camera, but we are pointing far away from there (more than 45 deg). So, the data are still good. Science ends at frame 272 lambda -126, drift ended at frame 286 lambda 124. --------------- 10:25Z Stared strip 82 S, run 4158, good from frame 11 lambda -110, offsets still not cleared. Astroline gived us warnig: BiasL, BiasR bad on ccds: 11,21,31,41,51. Skippy did not show results for a while, then we got them: rotator error too large - strange, it found only 2 stars. We cleared offsets without stopping the drift. 10:44Z A beginning of the corrected scan starts at frame 43 lambda -105. Science starts at frame 56 lambdad -103. Skippy found only few stars like before (2), and again we got very bad rotator error, we run skippy on 10 frames then, but skippy found only 6 stars! We continued the drift, since, whatever we would do, the next drift wouldn't be reduced (too short), and after swapping to spectroscopy, we would not have time to do any science. Skippy run on 20 frames found only 16 stars and it says, that we actualy might be scanning a proper part of the sky, but comparing to 200 existing catalog stars for that region those 16 are too few, so we might not be were we want to be. All fiducials were crossed properly no too large too correct errors. Bummer! - we started the scan from bad lambda! and we were going outside the catalog region. This is why skippy was not finding more stars. Unfortunaltey none of us realized it early anough to correct the mistake on time :(. Frame 130 lamda -92 (end of that scan). We are not sure if this scan can be useful at all.
