APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday October 24, 2003 (MJD 52937) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dan Long, Howard Brewington Jurek Krzesinski (Swing) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Declared seven plates done, and got some signal on one other. However, we could not find guide stars or an Fk5 on cart 01, plate 1257. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon Checkout: ------------------- DAs -ok., imager ok. Spectrographs ok, in focus. MIGs ok, Telescope fiducialized. Night: ------ Just before twilight, we were unable to do an imager bias until we logged out of port #18. 01:02Z Cart 02, Plate 1523 (merged73): Field was found in bright twilight with Fk5 star. Plate was finished in the three exposures. 02:48Z Cart 03, Plate 1105 (merged48): Field found with Fk5 star. When the one exposure from tonight was added to previous night's S/N^2, plate 1105 was declared done. 03:27Z Cart 06, Plate 1152 (fstar51): Field found with Fk5 star. Two exposures were completed before this plate expired; a S/N^2 of 10.4 was caputred. Seeing is ~1.2", and we have clouds inbound from the northwest. 04:31Z Cart 07, Plate 1538 (lowz74): Field found with Fk5 star. Plate declared done in four exposures. 06:19Z Cart 05, Plate 1494 (merged73): Guide stars found with gotoField. Plate was completed in three exposures. 07:30Z Cart 09, Plate 1074 (merged48): Guide stars found with gotoField. Plate completed in three exposures. 09:05Z Cart 04, Plate 1518 (merged73): Guide stars found with gotoField. Although we have photometric conditions at present, there are some fast-moving clouds approaching APO from the northwest. Consequently, we plan to stay with spectro for the remaining hours of the night. Plate 1518 was finished in three exposures. 10:14Z Cart 08, Plate 1269 (chunk64): Guide stars found with gotoField after offsets were cleared. Plate completed in three exposures. 11:40Z Cart 01, Plate 1257 (taurus63): No Guide stars with gotoField or Fk5. No Fk5 star was realized even after a spiral-pattern search. There were no errors too large to correct when the scope moved to the field, the FFS was open, and the slithead latches were extended. About 30 minutes was lost because of this problem. See problems section for all of the misc error messages from watcher during the night. endNight finished and was happy. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4212 23:41Z 23:58Z 100 O 97.57 101.85 42 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 22848, plate -9999 ------- 23:00 22848 0.0 bias 23:34 22849 0.0 bias ----- sequence 22850, plate 1523 ------- 23:55 22850 0.0 bias 23:59 22851 10.0 flat 00:04 22852 2.0 arc 00:10 22853 2.1 arc 00:12 22854 2.1 arc 01:27 22855 10.0 flat 01:30 22856 2.0 arc 01:47 22857 900.1 target 02:10 22858 1200.1 target 02:33 22859 1200.1 target 02:37 22860 10.0 flat 02:40 22861 2.0 arc ----- sequence 22862, plate 1105 ------- 02:55 22862 10.0 flat 02:57 22863 2.0 arc 03:20 22864 1200.1 target ----- sequence 22865, plate 1152 ------- 03:36 22865 10.0 flat 03:39 22866 2.0 arc 04:02 22867 1200.1 target 04:25 22868 1200.1 target ----- sequence 22869, plate 1538 ------- 04:39 22869 10.0 flat 04:41 22870 2.0 arc 05:04 22871 1200.1 target 05:27 22872 1200.1 target 05:50 22873 1200.1 target 06:13 22874 1200.1 target ----- sequence 22875, plate 1494 ------- 06:26 22875 10.0 flat 06:28 22876 2.0 arc 06:46 22877 900.1 target 07:04 22878 900.1 target 07:22 22879 900.1 target ----- sequence 22880, plate 1074 ------- 07:37 22880 10.0 flat 07:39 22881 2.0 arc 07:57 22882 900.1 target 08:20 22883 1200.1 target 08:39 22884 1000.1 target 08:59 22885 1000.1 target ----- sequence 22886, plate 1518 ------- 09:13 22886 10.0 flat 09:15 22887 2.0 arc 09:39 22888 1200.1 target 09:55 22889 800.1 target 10:11 22890 800.1 target ----- sequence 22891, plate 1269 ------- 10:27 22891 10.0 flat 10:30 22892 2.0 arc 10:48 22893 900.1 target 11:11 22894 1200.1 target 11:33 22895 1200.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:21Z 2, 1523 20.06 0.0019 55.55 0.0004 196.69 0.0000 1.000100 03:00Z 3, 1105 -1.17 0.0054 57.20 -0.0003 178.94 0.0000 1.000130 03:45Z 6, 1152 -31.22 0.0049 53.03 0.0020 154.10 0.0000 1.000100 04:48Z 7, 1538 -3.32 0.0029 57.22 0.0000 177.12 -0.0174 1.000100 06:24Z 5, 1494 -25.66 0.0039 54.46 0.0000 158.56 -0.0195 1.000000 07:35Z 9, 1074 -17.55 0.0051 55.92 0.0004 165.26 0.0096 1.000120 09:34Z 4, 1518 -27.45 0.0029 54.05 -0.0004 157.14 -0.0045 0.999940 10:26Z 8, 1269 98.96 -0.0001 50.54 0.0006 253.64 -0.0130 1.000310 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL6913 Stays: JL6914 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:20Z 2, 1523 1.00010 -988 397 50 20 55.5 12.1 8 29 gdr 1.7 03:00Z 3, 1105 1.00013 -1284 147 50 -1 57.2 12.5 5 8 gdr 1.7 03:44Z 6, 1152 1.00010 -988 304 -50 -31 53.2 12.1 7 280 gdr 1.2 04:47Z 7, 1538 1.00010 -988 257 -85 -3 57.2 11.8 10 295 gdr 1.1 06:25Z 5, 1494 1.00000 0 1127 -40 -26 54.4 10.4 2 294 gdr 1.2 07:34Z 9, 1074 1.00012 -1185 182 0 -17 56.0 9.8 4 203 gdr 1.1 09:33Z 4, 1518 0.99994 593 1633 -25 -27 54.2 9.6 6 268 gdr 1.3 10:25Z 8, 1269 1.00031 -3060 -1354 0 99 50.4 9.4 2 226 gdr 1.4 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:55Z 57 13 7 350 (NNW) 404 -
