APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday January 14, 2004 (MJD 53019) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dan Long Pete Newman ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Snow! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Snow, humidity, and high winds started around two hours before sunset. Inclement conditions persisted through out the night. We never opened. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Spectrographs did not need refocusing. All checks went well. Only one thing out of the ordinary. When testing the calibration lamps while at the telescope, the flat field lamps did not come on. They worked fine not half an hour earlier when taking a flat with the spectrographs. The fuse was found to be blown in the power supply rack in the lower enclosure. It was replaced, and the flat field lamps came on normally when requested to from the mcp. No obvious reason why the fuse blew. Maybe it was the telescope's way of complaining about the weather. Night: ------ Bands of snow. Brisk to high winds blowing it all around. Two inches or so fell between 3 PM and 1 AM local time (22:00Z and 08:00Z). More on the way according to the radar. The oxygen depletion alarm flashed a few times in protest to the conditions as well. A calibration tweak on the sensor(s) may be needed. Threw in the towel and shut everything down around 08:00Z as the next band of snow moved in. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4365 23:30Z 23:36Z 100 O -184.49 -182.93 24 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): n/a QA Procedures Done (y/n): n/a UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 23:24 24664 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JLCloudy1 Stays: JLCloudy2 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:25Z 30 27 22 75 (ENE) 186 - Snow 23:57Z 29 27 21 83 (E) 257 - Snow 00:29Z 29 27 19 84 (E) 442 - Lt Snow 01:01Z 29 27 21 81 (E) 263 - Lt Snow 01:31Z 29 27 27 77 (ENE) 273 - Lt Snow 02:02Z 29 27 14 98 (E) 509 - Snow 02:32Z 29 27 21 99 (E) 365 - Lt Snow 03:02Z 29 26 24 87 (E) 81 - Lt Snow 03:32Z 29 26 15 84 (E) 45 - Blowing Snow 04:02Z 29 27 18 85 (E) 39 - Blowing Snow 04:34Z 29 28 16 86 (E) 29 - Blowing Snow 05:05Z 29 28 13 105 (ESE) 41 - Cloudy 05:35Z 29 27 18 81 (E) 13 - Lt/Bl Snow 06:05Z 30 28 14 86 (E) 14 - Cloudy 06:35Z 30 29 16 113 (ESE) 8 - Cloudy 07:06Z 30 29 14 110 (ESE) 7 - Lt Snow 07:38Z 30 29 13 112 (ESE) 2 - Lt Snow 08:10Z 30 29 15 110 (ESE) 3 - Lt Snow ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Enclosure never opened.
