APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday January 21, 2004 (MJD 53026) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Stephanie Snedden Night: Dan Long, Pete Newman ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Cloud, occasional snow and high humidity prevented opening. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing: ====== Afternoon checkout mostly went without problems, except for SOP on Landrupe. After setting up SOP in the usual way I tried to take a flat and arc, and they failed in the same way they would if the grabInst failed. I regrabbed the instruments and got this message: EXPOSURE TIME is: 10 2004-01-21 22:07:14Z: beginData has failed: sp1 is not idle...aborting; sp1 has status error writing "file8": Bad file goStare was not successful, trying again goStare was not successful, trying again goStare was not successful, trying again goStare was not successful, trying again goStare was not successful, trying again goStare was not successful, trying again Could not do goStare in 5 attempts This is the second time in four days that this has happened from landrupe => sdsshost, but others have noted an increase in grabInst failures from other machines as well. Also, The main power button on Glentek amp altitude 2 would not stay depressed when pushed. After a few tries, it stayed on. A PR was filed. Spectro focus was checked and not adjusted. Night: ====== Weather conditions were never favorable, with light snow fall early on, and combinations of high humidity and overcast sky all night. We were about to give up at about 10:20Z when the humidity plunged. However, the clouds were unrelenting, and at 11:10Z we really gave up. We seem to have had many windscreen touches in the enclosure recently, e.g. altitude (Windscreen touched in altitude: UP (2004-01-22 10:25:56Z sdssmcp) so perhaps the sensors need adjustment? We checked in an update to ipo/params/cartridgeInfo.par to make permanent the disabling of guide fiber 11 on cartridge 6 on the next SOP build. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4374 21:18Z 22:02Z 100 O 149.23 160.41 87 ignore doghouse biad ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): Y QA Procedures Done (y/n): N UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 24737, plate -9999 ------- 22:26 24737 0.0 bias ----- sequence 24738, plate 1598 ------- 22:32 24738 10.0 flat 22:35 24739 2.0 arc 23:42 24740 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- No tapes shipped or stored. endNight run onto the Cloudy-night set. ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:57Z 29 21 6 267 (W) 0 - Cloudy 22:29Z 28 21 6 253 (WSW) -9999 - " 22:59Z 28 22 6 247 (WSW) -9999 - " 23:30Z 27 21 1 242 (WSW) -9999 - " 00:04Z 27 23 1 263 (W) -9999 - " (There is a long gap here because Pete failed to have the log open and editable.
