APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday January 23, 2004 (MJD 53028) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- swing: Steph Snedden night: Dan Long, Atsuko Nitta ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Clouds clouds clouds clouds clouds. We took advantage of a small hole and got: One good science exposure on plate 1356. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing: ===== Afternoon checkout went without problems. Spectro focus was checked and tweaked slightly. Details after problems section. Night: ====== We wait the clouds to go away. 09:00Z The sky looks ok --- it might be a hole looking at the weather map. But we decided to take our chance and open. We did not force spectro fill after opening since the last fill occurred around 1:00Z. We should be ok for the rest of the night. Of course now that we are open, the clouds thickens. Cart 3 Plate 1356 ====================== 09:30Z We fk5ed to acquire the field. Maybe the clouds made it hard to see the gstars on the first gotoField? Seeing ~1.3" but cloud camera reports std dev of 70-300+. First science exposure is good. We aborted the second exposure since the clouds and scale change made the efficiency very low (10%). CLouds are thick. We wait. Clouds win and we never took another exposure. 10:40Z We decided to close. endNight ran happily. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4376 22:48Z 23:18Z 100 O 173.83 -178.57 52 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 24764, plate -9999 ------- 22:38 24764 0.0 bias ----- sequence 24765, plate 1641 ------- 22:49 24765 10.0 flat 22:52 24766 2.0 arc 23:21 24767 2.1 arc 23:23 24768 2.1 arc 23:48 24769 2.1 arc 23:51 24770 2.1 arc ----- sequence 24771, plate 1356 ------- 5.1 4.5 6.3 5.6 09:27 24771 0.0 bias 09:42 24772 10.0 flat 09:44 24773 2.0 arc 10:08 24774 1200.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 09:40Z 3 1356 -130.50 -0.0034 78.61 0.0057 56.11 0.0171 1.000260 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL7163 Stays: JL7164 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 09:40Z 3 1356 1.00026 -2566 -806 200 -130 78.6 0.5 8 281 gdr 1.5 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:38Z 38 17 4 356 (NNW) -9999 - 23:11Z 38 20 4 270 (W) -9999 - 23:42Z 34 21 3 350 (NNW) -9999 - 02:11Z 36 -9 7 340 (NNW) -9999 - 02:43Z 36 -10 7 339 (NNW) -9999 - 03:15Z 31 17 4 358 (NNW) -9999 - 03:47Z 31 17 8 354 (NNW) -9999 - 04:20Z 31 20 5 328 (NNW) -9999 - 04:52Z 30 20 1 324 (NW) -9999 - 05:25Z 31 18 6 273 (W) -9999 - 05:57Z 31 17 4 272 (W) -9999 - 06:29Z 32 8 8 263 (W) -9999 - 07:01Z 32 1 9 265 (W) -9999 - 07:33Z 34 -9 6 275 (W) -9999 - 08:05Z 32 -10 7 265 (W) -9999 - 08:38Z 33 -8 5 266 (W) -9999 - 09:10Z 33 -9 8 283 (WNW) -9999 - 09:43Z 33 -7 7 282 (WNW) -9999 - 10:14Z 33 -11 11 299 (WNW) -9999 - 10:46Z 32 -4 8 321 (NW) -9999 - 11:19Z 32 -4 5 334 (NNW) -9999 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 09:20Z Open 10:40Z Closed and fans off. I tried to mask the watcher error for the mismatch PLC version errors since we get LOTS of them. It comes up under misc section and although we don't get many errors there, we can easily miss other errors with the rate of the PLC mismatch errors are reported in watcher. I clicked the mid mouse button to get the following command, and issued it but got error message and failed to mask the error. If you can help me why this failed, I much appreciate it. It is as if it only read the first few words and did not take the rest of the message that I want to mask. Watcher said to do: You can mask this error with the command setErrorMasks telescope mcp misc Saw PLC version 18; expected "Version 17 $Name: v5_24_0 $" (2004-01-24 01:48:58Z sdssmcp) You'll need to provide a reason for the mask But when I tried, I got: Error: unknown error to mask: telescope mcp misc Saw I hope we will be graced by your visit soon (before/after the coll. meeting?). The weather has been poor this dark run. Would you do your magic thing again and improve the weather? your humble observer, atsuko
