APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday February 14, 2004 (MJD 53050) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Night: Howard Brewington Scot Kleinman French (by phone) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We declared seven plates done: 1739, 1740, 1303, 1442, 1377, 1632, and 1314. And, we got signal on plate 1562. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon Checkout ------------------ Spectro focus was checked and found to be within spec; see the problems section for motor numbers. We noticed that the telescope's az alignment was off by about one tick. We also discovered that the cartridge bay elevator would not work until we turned on the heater. And as we tried to set fiducials on the 2.5-meter, the 121 az fiducial was not being read everytime. Night ------------------- At sunset, we opened under thin clouds, so we started with spectro. 02:02Z Cartridge 04, Plate 1562 (lowz74). No guide stars found on goToField. We cleared the offsets and tried an Fk5; however, we were unable to locate the Fk5 either. After offsetting the scope by +16" in RA, the Fk5 was found. Thin clouds decreased the efficiency with respect to S/N^2. We completed two exposures on this plate before it expired for the night. 03:30Z Cartridge 02, Plate 1739 (chunk90). Guide stars on goToField, but this plate required a large scale change. During this and the previous plate, we had a little problem with the guider. In both cases, the problem occured after the guider was restarted once the preCals had completed. For some unknown reason, the guider took one exposure and then stopped. But, we restarted the guider again, and it worked normally. This plate was declared done after three exposures. 04:55Z Cartridge 07, Plate 1740 (chunk90). No guide stars on goToField, so we had to clear the offsets to find the guide stars. Thsi plate was declared done after three exposures. 06:10Z Cartridge 08, Plate 1303 (chunk66). No guide stars on goToField. And, we could not find the Fk5 after clearing the offsets or doing a +10" offset in RA. Next, we tried moving the scope slightly to the north (~6"). This move combined with the +10" offset in RA move the Fk5 to the edge of the guide fiber. The preCals were done after the first exposure. Although the sky is photometric at preset, we have clouds just to the west of us. This plate was declared done when tonight's S/N^2 was added to a previous night's. 07:00Z Cartridge 03, Plate 1442 (chunk68). Guide stars were found after clearing offsets. We lost a few minutes with this cartridge when we went to the field because the Az axis aborted. And after the preCal on this plate, we clicked the start guider button in the sop GUI, but nothing happened although we noticed the command was issused as dispplayed in the SOP/GUI murmur log. When the button was clicked the second time, however, the guider worked okay. This plate was declard done with three exposures. 08:14Z Cartridge 06, Plate 1377 (chunk69). Guide stars were found after offsets were cleared. The guider worked this time after the preCals finished, but we noticed a long delay between the first and second exposures. This plate was declared done after three exposures. 09:20Z Cartridge 01, Plate 1362 (chunk68). No stars on goToField. And, we could not find the Fk5 even after clearing the offsets. With a very long exposure and a +10" offset in RA, the Fk5 was locate; it was offset ~20" in RA. This plate was declared done in three exposures, but we added some extra signal because we had the time. 11:05Z Cartridge 09, Plate 1314 (chunk67). Guide stars on goToField. This plate was declared done when tonight's S/N^2 was added to a previous night's. We added a little extra signal to this plate as well. endNight finished and was happy. See problems section for misc watcher errors. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4456 22:42Z 22:57Z 100 O -165.84 -162.18 38 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 25010, plate -9999 ------- 22:41 25010 0.0 bias ----- sequence 25011, plate -9999 ------- 23:18 25011 0.0 bias ----- sequence 25012, plate 1362 ------- 23:36 25012 10.0 flat 23:38 25013 2.0 arc 23:43 25014 2.1 arc 23:45 25015 2.1 arc ----- sequence 25016, plate -9999 ------- 23:55 25016 0.0 bias ----- sequence 25017, plate 1362 ------- 00:04 25017 0.0 bias ----- sequence 25018, plate 1562 ------- 02:12 25018 10.0 flat 02:15 25019 2.0 arc 02:51 25020 1800.1 target 03:14 25021 1200.1 target 03:17 25022 10.0 flat 03:19 25023 2.0 arc ----- sequence 25024, plate 1739 ------- 03:36 25024 10.0 flat 03:38 25025 2.0 arc 04:03 25026 1200.1 target 04:23 25027 1000.1 target 04:46 25028 1200.1 target 04:49 25029 10.0 flat 04:52 25030 2.0 arc ----- sequence 25031, plate 1740 ------- 05:06 25031 10.0 flat 05:09 25032 2.0 arc 05:29 25033 1000.1 target 05:48 25034 1000.1 target 06:05 25035 800.1 target ----- sequence 25036, plate 1303 ------- 06:35 25036 800.1 target 06:39 25037 10.0 flat 06:41 25038 2.0 arc 06:58 25039 800.1 target ----- sequence 25040, plate 1442 ------- 07:15 25040 10.0 flat 07:17 25041 2.0 arc 07:36 25042 800.1 target 07:52 25043 800.1 target 08:08 25044 800.1 target ----- sequence 25045, plate 1377 ------- 08:20 25045 10.0 flat 08:23 25046 2.0 arc 08:41 25047 800.1 target 08:57 25048 800.1 target 09:13 25049 800.1 target ----- sequence 25050, plate 1362 ------- 09:31 25050 10.0 flat 09:33 25051 2.0 arc 09:50 25052 800.1 target 10:06 25053 800.1 target 10:22 25054 800.1 target 10:38 25055 800.1 target 10:55 25056 800.1 target 10:58 25057 10.0 flat 11:00 25058 2.0 arc ----- sequence 25059, plate 1314 ------- 11:13 25059 10.0 flat 11:15 25060 2.0 arc 11:34 25061 900.1 target 11:52 25062 900.1 target 12:13 25063 1100.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:19Z 4 1562 -46.37 0.0051 46.98 0.0024 142.44 -0.0190 1.000000 03:44Z 2 1739 70.60 0.0045 44.29 0.0016 233.64 0.0050 1.000220 05:14Z 7 1740 49.86 0.0040 59.21 0.0002 220.81 -0.0088 1.000220 06:22Z 8 1303 20.56 0.0090 65.23 0.0013 197.35 0.0086 1.000070 08:29Z 6 1377 115.23 0.0011 57.17 -0.0013 -89.49 -0.0206 0.999970 09:37Z imager 231.09 -0.0013 71.30 0.0059 63.39 -0.0071 1.000010 11:19Z 9 1314 208.22 0.0011 59.39 0.0049 47.62 0.0007 0.999880 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL 7241 Stays: JL 7242 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 22:44Z 1 0 1.00000 0 1255 0 121 30.0 -0.4 16 350 02:19Z 4 1562 1.00000 0 1591 400 -46 47.0 -1.9 2 289 gdr 2.5 02:56Z unknown 1.00000 0 1463 250 -56 40.9 -3.2 2 216 03:44Z 2 1739 1.00022 -2171 -347 250 71 44.3 -3.3 7 52 gdr 2.2 05:14Z 7 1740 1.00022 -2171 -394 250 50 59.2 -1.8 10 2 gdr 1.9 06:22Z 8 1303 1.00007 -691 818 250 20 65.2 -3.4 9 2 gdr 1.2 08:30Z 6 1377 0.99997 296 1655 250 115 57.2 -1.9 8 351 gdr 1.5 09:37Z 1 1362 1.00001 -99 1197 150 231 71.3 -1.6 9 285 gdr 1.2 11:19Z 9 1314 0.99988 1185 2284 150 208 59.4 -1.9 6 351 gdr 1.2 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:32Z 32 6 11 348 (NNW) -9999 -
