APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday April 25, 2004 (MJD 53121) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Howard Brewington Night: Pete Newman Jerzy Krzesinski ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Note to the day crew: ---------------------- A small side wheel from the cart felt off. It was put in the cart. Could you please mount it back? - thanks. Shake: ------ Most of shake up tasks done (bias tests, flat, twilight flat tests). UV, Wht flat test produced warning/error: checkFlat 4607 25 . {42 WARN: leftGain } {42 FAIL: } so that needs to be checked. Because the seeing wasn't good enough to test gGuide 1.41" seeing problem we left PR 6000 in need tests for longer. We also haven't seen error message "/data/spectro/guider does not exist", but got only a few hours to watch the guider so PR 6001 remains in needs tests as well. iop v3_136_0 declared current. We took goStare flats with Connie's iop v3_126_mamoru_1. No problems here but there is and issue about getting prompt back after issuing goStare command. See the night log for details. Science: -------- Plate 1625 - we've got a lot of signal on it, but we didn't make it (clouds). 1414 - useful signal but not done. Plate done: 1384 ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing -------- The afternoon checkout was uneventful. And as requested, I homed D and E of M2. The spectro focus was not checked because the imager was mounted. I did, however, put the current coll_motor settings in the problems setion. Night -------- Steph's DIMM tests - postponed. Armin software and new camera drivers are somehow conflicted (this might be also time sync problem Steph says). She is going to find out what to do whith that. SdssProcedures v1_90: Changes are in place, new procedure version updated on the white board (APO 25. control room). Enclosure closed with lights off, we start with imager bias tests after sunset. Imager bias checks ================== setup iop v3_136_0 mkdir imagerTest cd imagerTest goDrift -bias Run 4606 startDa -scd endDrift (about frame 45) getAllFrames 4606 40 . checkBias 4606 40 . This returned no error messages. Examination of the bias vector plots in http://sdsshost.apo.nmsu.edu/skycat/imager/53121/ showed no major anomalies with all plots well centered on the nominal values. The plots for g1, r1, u4 and u6 shows TWO sets of data across the whole chip, while all other chips show their amplifier-specific output meeting in the center. How come two full nominal vectors for those chips? sop> biasGen (run 4606) ======================= biasCheck tonight's run 4606 (35) comapred to run from 53092 (34): Writing file /astrolog/53121/idBiasCheck-004606.par CCD 11 Offset. We could not use another IOP to abort the exposure because the first process had issued grabInstruments. We decided to sit out the 50 minute exposure rather than try to ctrl-C out of the goStare then pick up THOSE pieces! We did, however, turn off the calibration lamps after about 5 minutes of the exposure. We cleared the chips with a throw-away dark, then obtained 5 good 300 second exposures plus 2 good 600 second exposures with the imager UV+white flat field lamps on: im> goStare 0 -dark -flavor engineering -stripe "100,O" -comment "Imager dark" ... After that we tested imager with bias (on the telescope), to see if it is in a proper state - and it was. Additional twilight flats were taken yesterday on (5312, run 4603), calibration, drift-mode on-sky flat-field into twilight. ========================================================================= Science: there are some clouds around us. We try then spectroscopy. ------------------------------------------------------------------- (To check fix in the guider we run a new iop v3_136_0, while spectroscopying). 06:31Z cart 5 plt 1625, stars on slew (offsets were cleared). ARC - r1 got yellow on WSIGMA. We've got large flexure warning on the first exposure! - ignoring this one, but we took postcalib after the second exposure. We didn't make it. 08:11Z cart 7 plt 1384, stars on slew (previous offsets used). 08:39Z guider frame 556, guide fiber 10 - there is a hot pixel close to fiber 10 and gGuide finds the hot pixel over there not a star. We might need a new average dark frame to subtract better new hot pixels. After switching fiber 10 off, the scale had changed 0.014 -quite a bit. SOS asked for postcalib after last exposure, but we've already moved the telescope to inst. change position. Plate done. 10:21Z cart 8 plt 1414 mounted. Stars on gotofield. Hot pixel close to fiber 10 again was picked up for guiding, but this time we switched that fiber off immediately. Got useful exposures on that plate, but plate is NOT done. endNight finished ok. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4605 22:33Z 23:07Z 100 O -98.23 -89.60 38 ignore 4606 01:56Z 02:19Z 100 O -47.39 -41.49 52 bias 4607 02:43Z 03:00Z 100 O -35.67 -31.17 43 calibration 4609 05:54Z 06:02Z 100 O 12.43 14.38 25 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 26399, plate -9999 ------- 22:32 26399 0.0 bias ----- sequence 26400, plate -9999 ------- 05:55 26400 0.0 bias ----- sequence 26401, plate 1625 ------- 06:42 26401 10.0 flat 06:44 26402 2.0 arc 07:09 26403 1200.1 target 07:35 26404 1200.1 target 07:38 26405 10.0 flat 07:40 26406 2.0 arc 08:04 26407 1200.1 target ----- sequence 26408, plate 1384 ------- 08:27 26408 10.0 flat 08:30 26409 2.0 arc 08:59 26410 1200.1 target 09:22 26411 1200.1 target 09:45 26412 1200.1 target 10:13 26413 1500.1 target ----- sequence 26414, plate 1414 ------- 10:24 26414 10.0 flat 10:27 26415 2.0 arc 10:46 26416 900.1 target 11:04 26417 900.1 target 11:08 26418 10.0 flat 11:11 26419 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:47Z 5 1625 -49.26 -0.0001 55.13 0.0014 139.92 -0.0254 1.000230 07:50Z 5 1625 -66.16 -0.0001 43.94 0.0014 129.03 -0.0254 1.000300 08:36Z 7 1384 253.96 0.0059 78.92 0.0003 81.17 0.0225 1.000170 10:29Z 8 1414 -60.32 0.0006 73.92 0.0002 126.87 0.0054 1.000030 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL7486 Stays: JL7487 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:47Z 5 1625 1.00023 -2270 -330 385 -49 55.1 4.1 18 75 gdr 1.7 07:50Z 5 1625 1.00030 -2961 -911 340 -66 44.0 3.6 19 71 gdr 1.7 08:35Z 7 1384 1.00017 -1679 5 275 254 78.9 3.5 22 68 gdr 1.9 10:29Z 8 1414 1.00003 -296 1155 275 -60 73.9 1.7 22 71 gdr 2.0 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:28Z 50 11 10 347 (NNW) 1134 - 23:04Z 50 9 11 356 (NNW) 1247 - 23:36Z 50 10 2 334 (NNW) 1111 - 00:09Z 50 10 11 324 (NW) 1270 - 00:41Z 51 12 8 76 (ENE) 1285 - 01:13Z 49 13 1 142 (SE) 1117 - 01:44Z 48 12 9 24 (NNE) 951 - 01:56Z 47 13 11 18 (NNE) 1099 - 02:29Z 47 14 11 27 (NNE) 995 - 03:01Z 46 13 9 51 (NE) 907 - 03:33Z 46 14 14 60 (ENE) 855 - 04:05Z 41 18 20 73 (ENE) 1055 - 04:37Z 39 26 25 70 (ENE) 856 - 05:10Z 39 24 21 69 (ENE) 901 - 05:42Z 39 24 21 68 (ENE) 848 - 06:14Z 39 23 18 72 (ENE) 890 - 06:45Z 39 23 17 73 (ENE) 942 - 07:18Z 41 16 18 72 (ENE) 1010 - 07:49Z 38 21 19 71 (ENE) 958 - 08:20Z 38 21 19 73 (ENE) 981 - 08:51Z 38 21 20 72 (ENE) 905 - 09:24Z 36 23 24 72 (ENE) 840 - 09:57Z 35 21 26 70 (ENE) 726 - 10:28Z 35 18 21 70 (ENE) 657 - 11:00Z 35 17 24 71 (ENE) 623 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:20Z doors cracked, louvers opened, fans on.
