APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday December 3, 2004 (MJD 53343) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Dan Long Night: Jurek Krzesinski Howard Brewington ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We had clouds most of the night and collected no usable data. We got a critical error from watcher with respect to the imager's ion pump; see the problems section. There was a rotator abort during the second exposure of cart 08; see log. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Afternoon check went smoothly; no problems. Spectrographs were far enough off today that I made a focus change. It was requesting a positive move of slightly less than 4000. I gave it half of what it asked for (2000 on each spectrograph), in anticipation of cooler temperatures later in the night. Enclosure air temperature 4.5C sp1: Coll_motor_A 1904 Coll_motor_B -113 Coll_motor_C -1499 sp2: Coll_motor_A 6335 Coll_motor_B -12089 Coll_motor_C -5864 Night: ------- We had clouds at twilight but gave cart 08 a try nevertheless. 00:18Z Cart 08, plate 2058 (seguefaint105). An Fk5 star was use to find the field. We completed one exposure but, unfortunately, did get any usable signal. 0000:40Z We got at critical error from watcher about the imager's ion pump; see problem section. During the second exposure of cart 08, we got a Rotator abort; see below: rotator (addoffset: Max accl. for rotator exceeded: 275/1000 (2004-12-04 01:39:42Z sdssmcp): 2004-12-04 01:40:02Z) And the telescope, of course, stop tracking in that axis. About fifteen-minutes later, we got another rotator error: tracking (Excessive Rot Tracking Error:Excessive Az Tracking Error: 2004-12-04 01:56:36Z) 03:14Z Because of clouds, we moved the enclosure over the telescope but left doors cracked and fans on. 12:00Z With no chance of clear skies, we went home. See problems section for misc Watcher messages. endNight finishied and was happy. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5026 21:56Z 22:05Z 100 O 111.21 113.56 30 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 29682, plate -9999 ------- 21:53 29682 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29683, plate 1929 ------- 22:25 29683 10.0 flat 22:28 29684 2.0 arc 22:37 29685 2.1 arc 22:40 29686 2.1 arc 22:53 29687 2.1 arc 22:55 29688 2.1 arc ----- sequence 29689, plate -9999 ------- 23:33 29689 0.0 bias 23:42 29690 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29691, plate 2058 ------- 01:10 29691 10.0 flat 01:12 29692 2.0 arc 01:44 29693 1500.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:22Z 8 2058 74.15 0.0006 68.74 0.0054 243.01 0.0113 1.000190 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JLcloudy 1 stay: JL cloudy 2 --==Weather ==-- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:46Z 39 0 9 314 (NW) 317 - Mostly Clear 22:18Z 38 1 0 312 (NW) 304 - Mostly Clear 22:50Z 37 1 0 336 (NNW) 501 - Mostly Clear 23:22Z 38 2 4 355 (NNW) 157 - Mostly Clear 23:53Z 35 -6 7 357 (NNW) 243 - Partly Cloudy 00:22Z 34 -10 10 17 (NNE) 231 - 00:55Z 37 -29 7 4 (N) 181 - 01:25Z 37 -27 11 338 (NNW) 155 - 01:57Z 36 -14 10 354 (NNW) 139 - 02:27Z 36 -11 8 333 (NNW) 141 - 02:57Z 37 -7 9 357 (NNW) 167 - 03:27Z 37 -7 10 338 (NNW) 162 - 03:58Z 37 -18 5 287 (WNW) 169 - 04:28Z 36 -29 2 259 (W) 176 - 04:58Z 35 -16 4 264 (W) 168 - 05:28Z 36 -17 4 272 (W) 157 - 05:59Z 36 -11 4 261 (W) 161 - 06:29Z 36 -10 2 256 (WSW) 183 - 06:59Z 35 -10 3 246 (WSW) 168 - 07:31Z 36 -5 8 259 (W) 151 - 08:04Z 37 -23 8 268 (W) 73 - 08:36Z 36 -20 9 278 (W) 47 - 09:08Z 37 -19 9 268 (W) 64 - 09:40Z 36 -22 10 262 (W) 47 - 10:13Z 36 -22 10 267 (W) 29 - 10:45Z 36 -30 13 274 (W) 46 - 11:17Z 36 -16 12 281 (W) 100 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:15Z Doors Open, Fans O 00:17Z Enclosure off 03:14Z Enclosure on 11:45Z Doors closed, fans off Telescope at 121,30,00 Cart 08 mounted Imager 265lbs 21psi Spectro 137lbs 21psi ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_143_0 Watcher: v2_30_0 MCP: v5_26_0 TPM: tpm_v2_46_0 AstroDa: v14_47 TCC: TCC 2.7.2.1 August 6 2004 sdssProcedures: v1_96 SoS: v4_10_7 hoggPT: v1_6_9 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.5610 0.5600 Axial B 0.5710 0.5720 Axial C 0.9350 0.9330 Trans D -8.2060 -8.1960 Lateral E 10.0584 10.0457 Lateral F 11.6205 11.6205 GALILS Commanded: 4300. -1900. 2850. -13300. -7600. -7650.
