APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday December 30, 2004 (MJD 53370) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- swing: Jurek Krzesinski Night: Steph Snedden, Howard Brewington ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakedown - night 1: Pointing model, instrument checks, collimation check. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Standard shake items done except for a pointing check with the imager. No DIMM on-site yet, so we couldn't set it up. New pointing model. Collimation is good. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- The host rebooted. Spectrographs checked with bias - ok. DAs - bias drift done. Telescope fiducialized. MIGs before and after homing/relaxing done - see the mirror secion for details, nominal MIGs values set to the current onces. Eng. camera mounted on the telescope. PLENTY! of water inside the enclosure (under the dog house and south enclosure corner) and the basement, near SW wall droppng from the az rail. Night: ------ Humidity spiked at sunset, thanks to saturated ground and dropping temperatures. This delayed opening. 01:45Z Dry air moved in, and after a wait to make sure it stuck around, we opened for a pointing model. Standard shake items completed: ------------------------------- Pointing model: The engcam center was at 383, 257, very good. We ran the standard 72-point model. After throwing out one outlier, we got the following results: Read 71 data points * use * fit coeff change value sigma 1 IE +2.209 -157.55 0.978 2 IA +1.180 -135.88 1.068 3 AN -0.278 +6.32 0.335 4 AW +1.629 -7.57 0.329 5 HWCA2 -2.962 +0.12 0.436 6 HWSA2 +2.573 -0.65 0.447 7 HNCA1 +3.558 +0.28 0.504 8 HNSA1 -1.679 -0.81 0.501 9 CA -0.122 +33.23 0.791 10 PZZ1 +16.962 -130.81 3.214 11 ACEC -0.032 +1.80 0.603 12 ACES +0.803 -1.07 0.622 13 TX -6.661 -6.50 1.541 Sky RMS = 1.84 Popn SD = 2.03 We implemented this pointing model. A small model was taken and compared to the implemented model. Collimation looks good, no adjustments made. Imager appears healthy. Bright Moon plus clouds made running Skippy impossible, so we will have to check pointing with the imager tomorrow. Donuts are saved to phoenix in /data/photo/optics/53370. The frame details: Frame Focus ----- ----- 58 -600 62 +400 65 -100 (in focus) Spectro check: -------------- Mounted cartridge 5 and managed not to have a Paralan fail during the change from engcam to spectro :-) FK5 was at the edge of fiber 10 with no offsets. Clouds and Moon were a problem, making it difficult to see the stars. Offsets after centering are recorded in the offsets section. Spectrographs are healthy. sdssProcedures: --------------- All changes recorded in the change log for v1_97 of sdssProcedures were present and accounted for. Scheduled shake tasks yet to do: -------------------------------- 1) DIMM. It has not yet arrived on-site. 2) Check pointing with imager New shake item: --------------- The all-sky camera was way out of alignment. We aligned it. It should be good until we bump it again (tomorrow, no doubt). ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5089 21:24Z 21:39Z 100 O 129.77 133.73 40 ignore 5090 07:39Z 08:43Z 21 N -23.54 -64.35 121 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5090 100 1 57 357 71 -2.598 0.214 -1.412 0.276 0.00475 5090 100 1 57 357 64 -2.160 0.191 -1.313 0.294 0.00441 5090 100 1 57 357 70 -1.648 0.246 -1.376 0.244 0.00462 5090 100 1 57 357 61 -1.287 0.228 -1.508 0.183 0.00507 5090 100 1 57 357 55 -1.010 0.228 -1.377 0.188 0.00463 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 30111, plate -9999 ------- 21:22 30111 0.0 bias 21:35 30112 0.0 bias 23:22 30113 0.0 bias 23:28 30114 0.0 bias ----- sequence 30115, plate -9999 ------- 00:41 30115 0.0 bias ----- sequence 30116, plate 1751 ------- 09:42 30116 10.0 flat 09:45 30117 2.0 arc 10:02 30118 600.1 target 10:05 30119 10.0 flat 10:08 30120 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 09:33Z 5 1751 61.48 -0.0027 57.88 0.0008 229.54 -0.0041 1.000250 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 23:36Z engcam 1.00000 0 1257 0 121 30.0 2.9 9 301 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:16Z 40 30 13 276 (W) 0 - pcl 21:47Z 38 28 10 284 (WNW) 0 - " 22:20Z 41 30 11 278 (W) 0 - " 22:52Z 38 29 11 269 (W) 0 - " 23:24Z 37 28 3 281 (W) 0 - " 23:59Z 36 30 6 268 (W) 0 - " 00:32Z 33 29 5 267 (W) 0 - " 01:04Z 35 21 6 256 (WSW) 0 - " 01:36Z 36 15 6 268 (W) 0 - " 02:08Z 36 11 10 307 (NW) 0 - " 02:40Z 35 15 8 308 (NW) 0 - " 03:13Z 36 11 4 312 (NW) 0 - " 03:45Z 38 5 8 282 (WNW) 0 - " 04:17Z 38 6 5 264 (W) 0 - " 04:49Z 38 6 9 226 (SW) 0 - " 05:21Z 37 9 7 259 (W) 0 - " 05:54Z 39 0 10 267 (W) 0 - " 06:26Z 38 0 1 248 (WSW) 0 - " 06:58Z 38 0 7 266 (W) 0 - " 07:30Z 34 16 7 248 (WSW) 0 - " 08:02Z 34 17 8 204 (SSW) 0 - " 08:33Z 33 18 9 182 (S) 0 - " 09:03Z 33 17 8 183 (S) 0 - " 09:37Z 33 20 3 186 (S) 0 - " 10:08Z 34 13 0 223 (SW) 0 - " 10:40Z 35 6 3 185 (S) 0 - " 11:13Z 37 -1 6 196 (SSW) 0 - " 11:46Z 38 -4 8 203 (SSW) 0 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:10Z Doors opene fans on. 00:15Z Doors closed, fans off. 01:23Z Doors open, fans on again. 01:45Z We finally open 11:17Z Closed enclosure.
