APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday February 2, 2005 (MJD 53404) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Atsuko Nitta (swing) Mike Harvanek Steph Snedden Support and phoneConing: Scot Kleinman Keeping the world a happy place: Hercules Invisible support: Craig Loomis ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- High humidity, high wind and blowing snow. No science. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon ============ 21:00Z A box from FNAL containing mugs arrived. Thank you Bill. Checkout went fine. Cloomis fixed the SoS-version-number-not-being- automatically-recorded-in-logTool-problem. SoS version number is recorded correctly. 23:45Z Turned on the fans and cracked the doors 00:30Z We close and turn off fans. Dew point diff is below 3C. Mike is a slob. Night: ====== Mike is NOT a slob. He just apparently has a thing for post-it notes. Lots of post-it notes. We had to delay opening because of high humidity and blowing snow. As it turns out, we had to delay all night. We ventilated the building while the dewpoint depression was above 3C. The temperature dropped 3.1C during that time. When the dewpoint depression dropped, we had to close, but we took another flat/arc pair at that time to see how the temperature change affected spectro focus. Later, we took a third set when the temperature had dropped again by 2C. Here are the XSIGMA and WSIGMA values: XSIGMA b1 r1 b2 r2 Enclosure T = +2.4C, RH approx. 60% 0.92 0.88 0.81 0.89 Enclosure T = -0.7C, RH approx. 80% 0.92 0.92 0.84 0.94 Enclosure T = -2.8C, RH approx. 65% 0.88 0.82 0.78 0.84 WSIGMA b1 r1 b2 r2 Enclosure T = +2.4C, RH approx. 60% 1.00 0.88 0.84 0.88 Enclosure T = -0.7C, RH approx. 80% 1.01 0.90 0.85 0.89 Enclosure T = -2.8 C, RH approx 65% 1.00 0.85 0.84 0.87 WSIGMA changed very little. XSIGMA changed a little more. There was no real correlation with temperature. The telescope never moved, either. However, there MAY be a correlation with relative humidity...with only three points it's hard to tell. Or we may just be seeing normal scatter in the data. 03:52Z There was still blowing snow. They were small flakes, blowing almost horizontally. Humidity still high. 08:02Z Ditto. 09:50Z Ditto. 11:21Z Humidity dropped, but there was a lot of blowing snow off the west side of the enclosure, and we had a strong east wind. Also, although there was no working particle counter, we could see our flashlight beam...a lot of scattering off small particles. We stayed closed. 12:22Z Ran endNight -doTpm ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5134 22:51Z 00:22Z 100 O -174.72 -152.03 166 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): bias, flats & arcs checked UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 30769, plate -9999 ------- 22:51 30769 0.0 bias ----- sequence 30770, plate 2061 ------- 23:01 30770 10.0 flat 23:03 30771 2.0 arc ----- sequence 30773, plate 2061 ------- 00:59 30773 10.0 flat 01:02 30774 2.0 arc ----- sequence 30775, plate -9999 ------- 01:16 30775 0.0 bias ----- sequence 30776, plate 2061 ------- 11:00 30776 10.0 flat 11:02 30777 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL N/A Stays: JL N/A ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:18Z 4 2061 1.00000 0 1257 0 121 30.2 -8.8 15 79 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:30Z 19 12 10 63 (ENE) -9999 - pcl 23:03Z 20 12 17 47 (NE) -9999 - pcl 23:35Z 19 11 7 87 (E) -9999 - clear 00:07Z 18 11 4 82 (E) -9999 - " 00:40Z 16 11 5 48 (NE) -9999 - " 01:02Z 16 11 4 79 (E) -9999 - " 01:32Z 16 12 20 58 (ENE) -9999 - " 02:03Z 16 13 15 62 (ENE) -9999 - " 02:33Z 16 12 22 71 (ENE) -9999 - " 03:03Z 17 11 30 65 (ENE) -9999 - " 03:33Z 17 11 20 61 (ENE) -9999 - " 04:03Z 17 11 31 70 (ENE) -9999 - " 04:34Z 16 13 22 77 (ENE) -9999 - " 05:04Z 16 13 27 70 (ENE) -9999 - " 05:34Z 16 13 29 74 (ENE) -9999 - " 06:04Z 16 14 27 69 (ENE) -9999 - " 06:34Z 16 10 24 75 (ENE) -9999 - " 07:04Z 16 13 23 72 (ENE) -9999 - " 07:35Z 16 13 21 75 (ENE) -9999 - " 08:08Z 16 13 24 80 (E) -9999 - " 08:39Z 15 13 22 72 (ENE) -9999 - " 09:12Z 15 12 22 75 (ENE) -9999 - " 09:44Z 15 12 18 77 (ENE) -9999 - " 10:16Z 15 11 20 77 (ENE) -9999 - " 10:48Z 16 8 22 79 (E) -9999 - " 11:19Z 17 5 18 83 (E) -9999 - " 11:49Z 16 5 21 75 (ENE) -9999 - " 12:19Z 17 2 18 82 (E) -9999 - " ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:45Z Turned on the fans and cracked the doors in hopes that the dew point diff will stay good. 00:40Z Dew point diff is now below 3K.
