APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday March 21, 2005 (MJD 53451) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Howard Brewington (yesterday, too) Steph Snedden ET Team: Jian Ge (UF) Abishek Hariharan (UF) Julian Van Eyken (UF) Xiaoke Wan (UF) Bo Zhao (UF) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Engineering and hopefully, first light. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- ET first light. Using the stacked beamsplitter, 18 to 20 fibers gave useful data. The remainder were on the beamsplitter seams or out-of-field. Good fringes, good proof-of-concept. Tomorrow night, with the iodine cell in place, it will be possible to get radial velocities. Congratulations Jian and the rest of the ET crew! ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Orographic clouds at sunset. John B., a heads-up to you on the following: For this engineering run, and possibly the next, we need to be very careful of the fibers from the ET cartridges to the port in the platform. There is some concern that at altitudes less than approx. 40 deg, they could catch on objects during a slew. French has plans to fix this in future, but for now we should do two things: 1) Before issuing a goToField or instChange, make sure the altitude is above 40 degrees. Use a TCC track command to get it there if you need to, then issue the instChange. 2) We should have someone watching the fibers from a safe place near a stop button when we slew (at least until we're convinced the fibers are safe). Julian already has been notified and can do this. ---------- 04:10Z (approx) Ororgraphic clouds developed quickly and started dumping snow; enough to cover the ground. Closed the doors and shut the fans off. 06:25Z Doors back open, fans back on. That was a strange snowburst...developed quickly and left quickly. 08:30Z Cartridge 6, ET plate 8006. FIRST LIGHT. Guide stars acquired using the same offset determined during shakeup. Exposed for about an hour. I don't have the exact exposure time. 09:53Z Cartridge 7 ,ET plate 8007 Guide stars after clearing offsets. Two 45 minute exposures made. The last went well into twilight. Up to civil twilight, in fact. endNight ran on cloudy night tapes. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):N/A QA Procedures Done (y/n):N/A UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 31495, plate -9999 ------- 23:01 31495 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 09:30Z 6 8006 222.70 -0.0006 43.34 -0.0014 86.88 -0.0006 1.000070 10:02Z 7 8007 196.18 0.0045 78.05 0.0010 18.94 0.0134 1.000090 12:06Z 7 8007 237.13 0.0045 60.18 0.0010 79.70 0.0134 1.000090 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL N/A Stays: JL N/A ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 09:30Z 6 8006 1.00007 -691 807 175 223 43.4 -2.9 10 357 - 1.6" 10:02Z 7 8007 1.00009 -889 584 200 196 78.1 -3.0 18 12 - 1.3" 12:06Z 7 8007 1.00009 -889 541 125 237 60.2 -3.6 19 11 - 2.0" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:46Z 28 19 7 3 (N) 794 - 23:18Z 29 17 15 321 (NW) 497 - 23:50Z 31 17 10 314 (NW) 722 - 00:22Z 30 15 7 313 (NW) 949 - 00:55Z 30 15 18 318 (NW) 2313 - 01:27Z 29 13 9 319 (NW) 2832 - 01:59Z 28 18 6 355 (NNW) 658 - 02:31Z 28 18 19 324 (NW) 450 - 03:03Z 28 17 6 314 (NW) 292 - 03:36Z 28 16 6 342 (NNW) 277 - 04:09Z 28 15 14 321 (NW) 303 - 04:40Z 28 18 12 338 (NNW) 363 - 05:12Z 28 20 7 329 (NNW) 938 - 05:44Z 28 18 3 350 (NNW) 212 - 06:17Z 28 17 1 44 (NE) 214 - 06:49Z 28 16 5 3 (N) 243 - 07:19Z 27 12 2 330 (NNW) 270 - 07:49Z 27 11 7 10 (N) 296 - 08:21Z 27 11 15 3 (N) 259 - 08:53Z 27 11 16 319 (NW) 238 - 09:26Z 26 11 12 332 (NNW) 250 - 09:58Z 26 11 15 357 (NNW) 231 - 10:30Z 26 11 17 0 (N) 210 - 11:02Z 26 11 15 20 (NNE) 192 - 11:35Z 25 11 4 353 (NNW) 202 - 12:06Z 25 10 19 11 (N) 196 - 12:36Z 25 10 17 359 (NNW) 156 - 13:07Z 25 10 23 350 (NNW) 158 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:32Z Opened doors.
