---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===---
Photometric all night.
Imaged 18 N from lambda -45.5 to -16.0 (run 5312).
Imaged 18 S from lambda -24.1 to -5.1. NOTE THAT THE HEADERS FOR THIS
RUN (5313) ARE WRONG. We accidentally called this run 18 N and so the bore
sight offsets have the wrong sign.
Imaged 18 S from lambda -7.5 to +48.1 (run 5314).
ALSO NOTE THAT THERE IS A 2 HOUR GAP IN THE PHOTOMETRIC SOLUTION due to
problems with the PT. This gap begins roughly with run 5313 and runs into
the first part of run 5314.
The telescope did not stop at 6 degrees when putting it away tonight. It
was not a typo in the tcc. Perhaps someone could look into this.
---=== OBSERVING LOG ===---
Afternoon:
----------
No problems with the afternoon check with the exception of the HVAC cos:
fan-fail alarm.
Spectrograph focus checked but not adjusted. It is still set for best
focus at a temperature of about 9 or 10 C. A small adjustment was made
in x-direction position, to bring XMAX back in to spec on r1 and r2.
Details in the problems section.
Night:
------
01:35Z Doors Open, Fans On.
02:00Z Enclosure off.
Photometric with a favorable wind speed and direction so we begin with
imaging.
Run 5311: On-telescope imager bias.
Run 5312: 18 N. Pointing, focus, seeing all good by frame 25 (lambda -47.9)
but we are still in twilight. Ramp begins at frame 41 (lambda -45.5) just
2 minutes before twilight ends. The moon is still up but is only a sliver
(only 4% illuminated) and is nearly set. The moon officially set at frame 77
(lambda -40.2), just 19 minutes after twilight ended. Science ended at frame
225 (lambda -18.0). The ramp ended at frame 238 (lambda -16.0).

Mike has never had this problem before. What's changed?
Run 5313: 18 S. Started with a goDrift -quick. Steph's iop tcc connection
timed out and closed during the scanStripe though (see the Problems section
for details) so it wasn't quick at all. After another startDa -tcc she got
the prompt for the stripe and strip and entered 18,N not 18,S, thinking in
her befuddled state (her words, not mine) that she was answering the last
drift's prompts. AAAAARGH. As a result, run 5513 has the right stripe (18),
but wrong strip (N instead of S) in the headers. It has the wrong sign to
the boresight in the headers as well. Sorry about that. The skippy results
were obtained with the -xBore option (way to go Steph!) so we knew our
pointing errors were small. Around this time, the PT failed (see the PT
log for details). We called Steve Kent to ask about imaging without running
the PT but couldn't get a hold of him. We called Connie Rockosi and she said
we should switch to spectroscopy. We let this run continue for just over an
hour in the hope that it would be useful. This run was good from beginning
(frame 9, lambda -24.1) to end (frame 136, lambda -5.1) assuming the lack
of PT data can be overcome.
At some point during all this mayhem, the servers crashed and had to be
restarted.
Wendell Jordan's appearance restored the PT to operational status and so
we continued with imaging.
Run 5314: 18 S. As the PT was being resurrected, we restarted the drift
on the same strip, 18 S. This time, we got the strip correct. However, the
goDrift -quick wasn't quick yet again, and we didn't get as much ramp as we
wanted. Because we were close to an alt of 45 degrees already, we chose not
to restart the drift and drop even lower in altitude. As a result, we may
have a small gap (1.5 - 2 degrees?) in the strip between these two runs.
Sorry, but you can blame it on the PT I guess. We started this drift at
around 06:50Z (frame 9, lambda -7.5). We got the PT back on the sky around
07:24Z (frame 66, lambda +1.0). This run was good from beginning to end
(frame 380, lambda +48.1).
Note that the excursions of the cloud camera standard deviation above
the photometric limit that occurred around 06:30Z to 06:40Z and around
07:05Z to 07:25Z were due to deer and/or bugs near or on the cloud camera.
Run 5315: Donuts. In focus: frame 14; +500: frame 19; -500 frame 23.
Frames are stored on Juno in the appropriate directory:
/home2/observer/phoenix/data/photo/optics/53500
The first attempt at endNight failed. See the Problems section for details.
The second attempt at endNight is still running.
Upon closing, the telescope did not stop at 6 degrees as requested. Steph hit
the stop button at 3.8 degrees. She checked the tcc and it was not a typo.
We noticed that the lift pendant cable was on the wrong side of the 15 degree
stop but we don't know if this would have caused the telescope to not stop at
6 degrees.
No info from ltMatch tonight. What's up with that? Lots of gremlins in the
works tonight. Run away, run away.
