APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday September 21, 2005 (MJD 53635) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: John Barentine Night: Mike Harvanek Support: Hubert Lampeitl (Supernover) Steph Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- SN Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Imaged 82 N from lambda +111.6 to -122 (including ramps) in light clouds, moon and mostly good seeing. Steph figured out the nature of the spectro file transfer problem. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon --------- Same problem tonight as last night with spectro frames not making it to disk. See Problems. Had to restart the murmur server in order to get mirror numbers. Night ----- 01:59Z Run 5621: On-telescope bias in twilight. 02:20Z Run 5622: 82 N, start lambda +110. Everything good by frame 14 (lambda +111.6). Excellent seeing (sub "), photometric and no moon at the start. Light clouds starting about 02:50Z. Moonrise at approximately frame 91, lambda +123 (03:11Z). The seeing went bad from frame 359 to 429 (lambda +163.2 to +173.7) but then returned to good for the remainder of the run. Light clouds continued for most of the run. The run was good through the end (frame 859, lambda -122). Gang transfer stopped around 04:32Z. A "teamster -force 60" was issued (twice) to solve the problem. Steph figured out the cause of the spectro file transfer problem (way to go Steph!). From Steph: We investigated the SOP teamster problem. It turns out that unbeknownst to us until tonight, initNight was failing because of not enough disk space on /data/spectro. Hacking diskSpace.tcl so that it was happy with any amount of space allowed initNight to complete normally, The teamster then started normally and transferred spectro frames from the pool. The problem is understood, but the root cause (disk space) still needs to be addressed. endNight completed successfully. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5621 01:58Z 02:18Z 100 O 99.78 104.78 47 bias on-telescope, in twilight 5622 02:21Z 10:51Z 82 N 110.52 -121.62 867 science good from frame 14 on ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- See the main log. ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5622 13 4 6 0.100 0.100 -5.000 0.079 0.00670 171 57 5622 65 4 32 -0.500 0.136 -6.100 0.114 0.00390 171 57 5622 116 4 119 -0.300 0.122 -6.500 0.106 0.00418 171 57 5622 168 4 106 -0.000 0.128 -6.900 0.140 0.00422 171 57 5622 235 4 56 0.200 0.122 -6.800 0.105 0.00439 171 57 5622 288 4 68 0.400 0.093 -7.100 0.105 0.00394 171 57 5622 338 4 38 0.300 0.133 -7.300 0.159 0.00396 171 57 5622 390 4 46 0.700 0.161 -7.500 0.188 0.00426 171 57 5622 442 4 28 0.700 0.142 -7.500 0.117 0.00392 171 57 5622 492 4 36 1.000 0.118 -7.600 0.118 0.00424 171 57 5622 544 4 46 1.000 0.119 -7.500 0.109 0.00433 171 57 5622 595 4 34 1.200 0.118 -7.700 0.107 0.00466 171 57 5622 647 4 35 1.500 0.086 -7.800 0.126 0.00431 171 57 5622 698 4 44 1.500 0.125 -7.800 0.100 0.00430 171 57 5622 750 4 48 1.600 0.148 -7.600 0.154 0.00425 171 57 5622 801 4 37 1.200 0.128 -7.600 0.109 0.00479 171 57 5622 853 4 54 1.200 0.138 -7.600 0.116 0.00394 171 57 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): NO UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 34033, plate -9999 ------- 22:13 34033 0.0 bias 22:18 34034 0.0 bias ----- sequence 34035, plate 2260 ------- 22:37 34035 0.0 bias ----- sequence 34036, plate -9999 ------- 02:58 34036 0.0 bias 03:26 34037 0.0 bias ----- sequence 34038, plate -9999 ------- 06:33 34038 0.0 bias 07:00 34039 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:46Z imager 9.01 0.0000 57.01 0.0000 97.32 0.0000 1.000000 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:38Z imager 1.00000 0 -445 -340 9 57.0 15.3 9 216 i-23 0.8" 03:33Z imager 1.00000 0 -457 -352 9 57.0 15.3 10 200 i-23 0.8" 04:35Z imager 1.00000 0 -444 -339 9 57.0 15.2 12 186 i-23 1.3" 05:37Z imager 1.00000 0 -463 -358 9 57.0 15.3 13 186 i-23 0.9" 07:02Z imager 1.00000 0 -460 -355 9 57.0 15.1 10 206 i-23 0.9" 08:19Z imager 1.00000 0 -446 -341 9 57.0 14.9 10 199 i-23 0.9" 09:00Z imager 1.00000 0 -429 -324 9 57.0 14.7 10 194 i-23 1.0" 10:12Z imager 1.00000 0 -423 -318 9 57.0 14.2 9 183 i-23 0.8" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:52Z 69 43 9 236 (SW) -9999 - 22:23Z 69 43 12 248 (WSW) -9999 - 02:42Z 59 40 9 210 (SSW) -9999 - clear 03:13Z 59 39 10 198 (SSW) -9999 - light clouds 03:44Z 59 40 12 196 (SSW) -9999 - light clouds 04:14Z 59 40 9 213 (SSW) -9999 - light clouds 04:46Z 59 40 12 191 (S) -9999 - clear 05:19Z 59 39 14 191 (S) -9999 - clear 05:51Z 59 39 14 199 (SSW) -9999 - light clouds 06:23Z 59 38 12 183 (S) -9999 - light clouds 06:59Z 59 40 12 189 (S) -9999 - light clouds 07:31Z 59 41 9 188 (S) -9999 - light clouds 08:03Z 58 41 10 196 (SSW) -9999 - clear 08:35Z 58 41 10 193 (SSW) -9999 - clear 09:08Z 58 42 9 197 (SSW) -9999 - clear 09:44Z 57 40 10 192 (SSW) -9999 - light clouds 10:16Z 57 39 11 187 (S) -9999 - light clouds 10:48Z 57 40 11 188 (S) -9999 - light clouds 11:20Z 56 39 8 182 (S) -9999 - light clouds ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:40Z W garage door cracked, E garage door open, fans & blowers on. 01:10Z Enclosure off. 11:10Z Enclosure on, doors closed, fans and blowers off, louvers closed. I took several biases with the spectrographs which appeared in the pool and then stayed there. Did a "teamster 60 spectro -force", spawning a new teamster. That didn't work. At Steph's suggestion, I forced it again four times, separated by a few minutes (PIDs 14791, 23532, 32142 and 8055, respectively). This still did not trigger archiving of the frames in the pool. And once again, frames2Unix caused the frames to be archived. Eric has been notified.
