APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday February 4, 2006 (MJD 53771) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: K. Pan Night: V. & E. Malanushenko, S. Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- One plate completed (SEGUE faint plate 2407), A few exposures on two other plates and LOTS of clouds (the forecast was mostly clear). ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: Spectrograph focus checked and no change made. The best focus temp is around 1-2 C. As usual, details in problem section. 23:30Z Fans on, louvers open. east door open and west door craked. cart 8 (plt 1246) mounted on telescope. Night: We opened at sunset to partly cloudy skies and Moon. We set up for spectroscopy. Cartridge 8, plate 1246 - Orion plate. 01:07Z - we are on the field. An FK5 was needed, and even then an offset of A=-5, D++8 was needed to find the FK5. 01:48Z - Start of science. Between poor seeing, moon and clouds, we were only able to get one good target exposure (37087). Frame no. exp. time Offset Notes 37083 900 s 0" Declared bad - (S/N)**2<2 37084 1200s +11" Declared bad - cloud+moon 37085 1200s 0" Declared bad - cloud+moon 37086 1800s 0" Declared bad - cloud+moon 37087 1500s 0" Low, but good signal 37088 1500s +11" Sky offset Peregrine, I don't know if the above one good exposure will be of too much use. Have a look and see. ----- 04:40Z - Cartridge 1, plate 2407 - seguefaint Needed an FK5 to find the field. SoS gave yellow results for NGOODFIBERS in all cameras. Spectro 1 images showed about 7 lower throughput fibers scattered across the blocks plus 3 missing science fibers. Spectro 2 showed 6 lower throughput fibers in the 3rd block from the left as displayed in a ds9 image, plus 4 missing science fibers. We sat on this plate for 3.5 hours, and as the clouds slowly cleared, we were able to declare it DONE with a total exposure time of 12,600 s ----- 09:00Z - Cartridge 6, plate 2351 - Legacy GSOGTF. We got one useable exposure before the clouds thickened. other exposures did not get (S/N)**2 > 2 ----- 11:13Z - Cartridge 5, plate 1989 - Legacy Needed an FK5 to find the field. Clouds became more opaque and efficiency plummeted during the first exposure. No useful exposures obtained. endNight rejoiced from Viktor's account. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6011 23:10Z 23:25Z 100 O -168.39 -164.58 40 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 37075, plate -9999 ------- 22:52 37075 0.0 bias ----- sequence 37076, plate 1989 ------- 23:00 37076 10.0 flat 23:02 37077 2.0 arc 23:11 37078 2.1 arc hartmann left 23:13 37079 2.1 arc hartmann right ----- sequence 37080, plate 1246 ------- 23:56 37080 0.0 bias 01:42 37081 10.0 flat 01:44 37082 2.0 arc ----- sequence 37080, plate 1246 ------- 02:05 37083 900.1 target 02:29 37084 1200.1 target 02:53 37085 1200.1 target 03:26 37086 1800.1 target 04:02 37087 1500.1 target 04:29 37088 1500.1 target 04:32 37089 10.0 flat 04:35 37090 2.0 arc ----- sequence 37091, plate 2407 ------- 04:50 37091 10.0 flat 04:52 37092 2.0 arc 05:16 37093 1200.1 target 05:44 37094 1500.1 target 06:12 37095 1500.1 target 06:39 37096 1500.1 target 07:07 37097 1500.1 target 07:35 37098 1500.1 target 08:02 37099 1500.1 target 08:05 37100 10.0 flat 08:07 37101 2.0 arc 08:37 37102 1500.1 target 08:54 37103 900.1 target ----- sequence 37104, plate 2351 ------- 09:06 37104 10.0 flat 09:08 37105 2.0 arc 09:32 37106 1200.1 target 09:55 37107 1200.1 target 10:28 37108 1800.2 target 10:30 37109 10.0 flat 10:33 37110 2.0 arc 11:07 37111 1800.1 target ----- sequence 37112, plate 1989 ------- 11:47 37112 1500.2 target 11:50 37113 10.0 flat 11:53 37114 2.0 arc 12:32 37115 1800.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:41Z 8 1246 48.48 -0.0004 45.79 0.0045 218.93 -0.0090 1.000360 04:49Z 1 2407 108.01 0.0029 48.26 0.0043 -101.85 -0.0126 1.000280 06:11Z 1 2407 104.11 0.0029 64.84 0.0043 -93.20 -0.0126 1.000280 09:10Z 6 2351 285.74 0.0029 79.27 0.0043 111.77 -0.0126 1.000130 11:21Z 5 1989 224.30 0.0128 82.11 0.0022 48.25 0.0118 1.000130 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:41Z 8 1246 1.00036 -3554 -1647 100 48 45.8 3.8 13 226 - 2.0 04:49Z 1 2407 1.00028 -2765 -1072 30 108 48.2 3.3 7 222 - 1.5 06:11Z 1 2407 1.00028 -2765 -1118 30 104 64.8 3.3 10 263 - 1.2 09:10Z 6 2351 1.00013 -1284 66 10 286 79.2 4.0 17 268 - 1.4 11:21Z 5 1989 1.00013 -1284 64 10 224 82.1 3.8 13 281 - 1.8 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:47Z 42 4 11 268 (W) 1085 - part cloudy 23:17Z 42 3 8 264 (W) 1015 - " 23:47Z 39 2 6 263 (W) 1141 - " 00:21Z 38 2 7 267 (W) 1029 - " 00:51Z 36 1 5 252 (WSW) 1112 - " 01:22Z 36 1 6 254 (WSW) 1179 - " 01:53Z 38 1 7 261 (W) 1282 - " 02:24Z 40 0 11 261 (W) 1060 - " 02:54Z 38 0 7 264 (W) 1107 - " 03:24Z 39 0 8 270 (W) 1280 - " 03:55Z 39 0 11 266 (W) 1254 - " 04:28Z 39 0 10 258 (WSW) 1317 - " 04:58Z 38 2 7 263 (W) 1432 - " 05:29Z 38 2 11 252 (WSW) 1603 - " 06:00Z 38 3 9 263 (W) 1456 - " 06:30Z 39 1 12 271 (W) 1142 - " 07:01Z 39 0 13 261 (W) 817 - " 07:32Z 38 1 11 263 (W) 829 - " 08:03Z 38 1 8 269 (W) 955 - " 08:33Z 39 0 20 276 (W) 808 - " 09:03Z 38 1 21 272 (W) 946 - " 09:34Z 40 1 16 274 (W) 786 - " 10:06Z 39 2 20 273 (W) 849 - " 10:36Z 39 4 13 268 (W) 819 - most cloudy 11:08Z 39 4 17 276 (W) 901 - " 11:38Z 38 5 16 285 (WNW) 800 - " 12:10Z 38 4 11 273 (W) 941 - " 12:42Z 39 4 18 283 (WNW) 900 - " ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:30Z Fans on, louvers open. east door open and west door craked. 00:50Z Opened enclosure. 12:48Z Closed enclosure.
