APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday March 16, 2006 (MJD 53811) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Night: Dan Long ET Crew: Jian Ge Julian vanEykon Zhao Bo ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Cloudy all night. Never opened. Rotator offset of yesterday is gone as quickly and mysteriously as it appeared. Ran test mcp all through the quiet night. No mushroom clouds spotted. All ET plates unplugged by the end of the night. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- 00:30Z East Door Open, Fans On, Louvers Open Thick clouds cover the sky Whatever caused the offset in the rotator yesterday reversed itself today. During the afternoon check, I got another 20000 count fiducial error in the opposite direction to yesterday and when I applied it the zero mark again lined up. So the rotator was back to thinking it was at zero, when it was physically there. Fiducial tables are the same as last night. The mcp version is the test version as opposed to the current v5_26_2. Craig was confident enough that the crash problem had been reduced or eliminated, that we could safely run with it overnight. It should be noted that the different version of the mcp can't be the reason for the disappearing rotator offset as there was no offset with the current version three days ago. It is possible it could have something to do with all the switching back and forth in recent days, but not the versions themselves. By the end of the night, all the ET plates were unplugged, as the ET crew wanted to take their fibers back with them for more testing. 06:50Z Doors Closed, Fans Off (dust) 09:05Z Doors Open, Fans On, Louvers Open 11:30Z Giving up. No chance to get anything in the last 20 minutes before twilight. endNight happily transferred lots of cloudy pics. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 38005, plate -9999 ------- 23:52 38005 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:10Z 49 15 7 244 (WSW) 450 - Cirrus 22:42Z 50 15 14 222 (SW) 430 - Cirrus 23:14Z 48 14 19 202 (SSW) 441 - Thick Cirrus 23:46Z 46 13 16 225 (SW) 714 - Cloudy 00:17Z 46 12 14 203 (SSW) 835 - Cloudy 00:47Z 45 11 15 208 (SSW) 761 - Cloudy 01:18Z 44 11 9 229 (SW) 781 - Cloudy 01:48Z 43 12 13 217 (SW) 847 - Cloudy 02:18Z 44 12 9 198 (SSW) 831 - Cloudy 02:50Z 44 13 8 184 (S) 948 - Cloudy 03:22Z 44 13 8 183 (S) 905 - Cloudy 03:55Z 44 12 12 175 (S) 1021 - Cloudy 04:27Z 45 13 14 182 (S) 1562 - Cloudy 04:59Z 45 13 14 173 (S) 1536 - Cloudy 05:31Z 42 12 17 150 (SSE) 1761 - Cloudy 06:03Z 41 13 17 144 (SE) 2273 - Cloudy 06:36Z 40 13 17 145 (SE) 2637 - Cloudy 07:08Z 40 13 18 147 (SSE) 2691 - Cloudy 07:40Z 40 13 15 143 (SE) 2680 - Cloudy 08:12Z 40 13 17 159 (SSE) 2587 - Cloudy 08:44Z 40 13 6 166 (SSE) 2177 - Cloudy 09:17Z 41 14 16 170 (S) 2048 - Cloudy 09:49Z 40 15 12 150 (SSE) 2161 - Cloudy 10:21Z 41 15 13 188 (S) 1996 - Cloudy 10:53Z 41 15 16 179 (S) 2024 - Cloudy 11:25Z 43 14 11 183 (S) 1434 - Cloudy 11:58Z 42 14 14 197 (SSW) 1183 - Cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:30Z East Door Open, Fans On, Louvers Open 06:50Z Doors Closed, Fans Off (dust) 09:05Z Doors Open, Fans On, Louvers Open 11:40Z Doors Closed, Louvers Closed, Fans Off.
