APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday September 1, 2006 (MJD 53980) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Jurek Krzesinski Viktor Malanushenko Jon Brinkman, Step Snedden, Wendell Jordan support team. ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Problems with tcc25m, sp2 door status sensor and other sensors - see afeternoon checkout in the log. Most important sensors shown in the tpm "status pannel" seems to be working now, but some need to be looked at during the day. We didn't open. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout: ------------------- First signs of problems: we couldn't get goStare working, murmur was not working either, and relay server was dying every time we tried to restart it. We rebooted the crates, then host2 - it did not solve the problem. Then we found that we cannot connect to tcc. We asked Jon and Steph for help. Decision: Tcc25m needs to be rebooted but didn't reboot fully. We thought we lost tcc due to the recent lightning, but Jon found out that port 24 on the private network switch was not working and he moved a plug to port 22. Today Craig was working on the network ... hmmm was that the lightning or lightnigLoomis which caused the problems :))). No telescope time was lost since we were covered with clouds. One problem has gone, but then Viktor noticed that Status pannel displays wrong status for the cartridge door on the telescope and MCP shows sp2 door closed, while we have cartridge mounted on the telescope. We called Wendell and decided we remount the cartridge again and see if we can verify sp2 doors are opening/closing, so we unmounted the cartridge. The control pannel at the telescope showed sp1 door opened and sp2 door LEDs were off (both open and closed) co we closed the doors and opened them to see that both sp1 and sp2 sensors are working now properly. Yet we still see problems with: Status: Bad (0) Bit: I1_18 5 Saddle mount position 2 switch. (that was cut and paste from the watcher system status). All seems to be fine and we can observe at the moment, but still some sensors on sp2 side are confused. Spectrograph focus was checked and was good for the night. Night: ------ Clouds all night. We never opened. 10:55Z endNight rejoyced (didn't have much to do). ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6296 02:38Z 03:06Z 100 O 89.81 96.75 60 bias ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 40543, plate 2308 ------- 03:11 40543 0.0 bias 03:18 40544 10.0 flat ----- sequence 40545, plate -9999 ------- 04:08 40545 0.0 bias ----- sequence 40545, plate 2308 ------- 04:13 40546 10.0 flat 04:16 40547 2.0 arc 04:20 40548 2.1 arc 04:23 40549 2.1 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 02:44Z 59 39 9 335 (NNW) 766 - 03:15Z 54 44 3 21 (NNE) 701 - 03:46Z 56 42 6 20 (NNE) 886 - 04:16Z 55 43 12 68 (ENE) 1318 - 04:41Z 54 45 12 70 (ENE) 1598 - 05:12Z 52 48 13 76 (ENE) 1855 - 05:44Z 52 49 12 78 (ENE) 1944 - 06:15Z 52 50 16 73 (ENE) 2247 - 06:45Z 52 47 15 87 (E) 1398 - 07:15Z 52 46 18 74 (ENE) 1201 - 07:45Z 51 46 16 76 (ENE) 1263 - 08:15Z 52 44 14 75 (ENE) 1396 - 08:45Z 53 42 7 88 (E) 1447 - 09:15Z 55 41 1 269 (W) 559 - 09:46Z 55 41 0 209 (SSW) 529 - 10:19Z 55 41 1 109 (ESE) 543 - 10:51Z 52 42 5 118 (ESE) 770 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Never opened. ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v4_26_0 Watcher: v2_34_0 MCP: v6_3_2 TPM: tpm_v3_3_0 AstroDa: v15_12_1 TCC: 0 sdssProcedures: SoS: v5_1_4 hoggPT: v1_6_9 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 24.6740 24.6750 Axial B 26.2540 26.2540 Axial C 25.3500 25.3490 Trans D 13.5770 13.5760 Lateral E 9.9568 9.9568 Lateral F 11.5316 11.5316 GALILS Commanded: 4600. -2000. 2650. -9300. -9800. -9800.
