APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday October 18, 2006 (MJD 54027) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Viktor Malanushenko Snow removal team: Howard Brewington and Mike Harvanek Snow removal support: French Leger ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We never opened Clouds, high humidity, and snow. Dithered flats CloudCam tests and alignment Snow removal We left the Lindy cart inside the 2.5 enclosure The PT door would not lock (French knows) ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Telescope has been checked. All systems work fine. Spectro Collimation has been done and focusing on expected night temp.= 0.0 C. The PT has been checked also. It work good; has been obtained biases and Dom Flats. The current weather condition (huge humidity, rain) don't permit start ventilation, open doors, etc. Night: ------ At sunset, we had clouds, high humidity, and snow. 02:03Z We started the cloudyNight tasks, viz., more dithered flats. See the info below for details. We did another set of 3-in-1 dithered flats using cartridge 1 (plate 2441). The collimation was set for a temp. of 0 C this afternoon. However, at the time of the dithered flats, mechSend s was showing spectro temps to be somewhere between 8 and 11 C and some xsigma and wsigma values were in the yellow and red. So, we reset the collimation for a temp of 7 C with the following 2 commands: sp1> mechPiston 7000 sp2> mechPiston 7000 The new collimator positions for 7 C are: sp1 Coll_motor_A -7179 Coll_motor_B -6979 Coll_motor_C -7679 sp2 Coll_motor_A -5349 Coll_motor_B -6131 Coll_motor_C -9549 A subsequent postCal showed the collimation to be good. The dithered flat frames are 41065-41109. The corresponding arcs are frames 41110-41111. We did a postCal after the dithered flats to make sure the collimator motors actually returned to the positions reported by mechSend s. The first postCal (41112-41113) was issued from the sop GUI but the sop session was at the sp2> prompt. The numbers looked okay but we did another postCal (41114-41115) with the sop session at the sp1> prompt just to be sure. These numbers also looked fine. 06:21Z Humidity and clouds are decreasing; however, we have blowing snow. 06:24Z After starting the cloud camera, we noticed that the artifact is still present. We are using the site's camera with Kurt's control box. We took time to align the camera tonight, but the gain was not been set. We also noticed that the photometric and skyLevel plots were not working on the webpage. 07:28Z Humidity has increased again to ~92%. 08:00Z French helped us remove the snow from the parking lot and walkways. 11:06Z We called it a night. endNight finished and was happy. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6465 21:54Z 22:19Z 100 O 64.86 71.19 56 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 41054, plate 2422 ------- 21:48 41054 0.0 bias 22:24 41055 10.0 flat 22:27 41056 2.0 arc 22:44 41057 2.0 arc 22:46 41058 3.0 arc ----- sequence 41059, plate -9999 ------- 00:15 41059 0.0 bias ----- sequence 41060, plate -9999 ------- 01:33 41060 0.0 bias ----- sequence 41061, plate 2441 ------- 01:46 41061 10.0 flat 01:48 41062 2.0 arc 02:07 41063 10.0 flat 02:10 41064 2.0 arc 02:22 41065 10.0 flat 02:24 41066 10.0 flat 02:27 41067 10.0 flat 02:31 41068 10.0 flat 02:33 41069 10.0 flat 02:35 41070 10.0 flat 02:39 41071 10.0 flat 02:42 41072 10.0 flat 02:44 41073 10.0 flat 02:48 41074 10.0 flat 02:51 41075 10.0 flat 02:53 41076 10.0 flat 02:57 41077 10.0 flat 03:00 41078 10.0 flat 03:02 41079 10.0 flat 03:06 41080 10.0 flat 03:08 41081 10.0 flat 03:11 41082 10.0 flat 03:15 41083 10.0 flat 03:17 41084 10.0 flat 03:19 41085 10.0 flat 03:24 41086 10.0 flat 03:26 41087 10.0 flat 03:29 41088 10.0 flat 03:33 41089 10.0 flat 03:35 41090 10.0 flat 03:37 41091 10.0 flat 03:41 41092 10.0 flat 03:44 41093 10.0 flat 03:46 41094 10.0 flat 03:50 41095 10.0 flat 03:53 41096 10.0 flat 03:55 41097 10.0 flat 03:59 41098 10.0 flat 04:02 41099 10.0 flat 04:04 41100 10.0 flat 04:08 41101 10.0 flat 04:11 41102 10.0 flat 04:13 41103 10.0 flat 04:17 41104 10.0 flat 04:19 41105 10.0 flat 04:22 41106 10.0 flat 04:26 41107 10.0 flat 04:28 41108 10.0 flat 04:31 41109 10.0 flat 04:34 41110 2.0 arc 04:37 41111 2.0 arc 05:00 41112 10.0 flat 05:02 41113 2.0 arc 05:07 41114 10.0 flat 05:09 41115 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 20:18Z 37 37 6 264 (W) 27641 - 20:51Z 39 39 14 207 (SSW) 1913 - 21:23Z 39 39 19 221 (SW) 2752 - 21:55Z 39 39 27 208 (SSW) 5245 - 22:27Z 38 38 15 218 (SW) 63124 - 22:58Z 37 38 19 231 (SW) 22901 - 23:31Z 33 33 6 345 (NNW) 2588 - 00:03Z 31 32 20 9 (N) 1012 - 00:44Z 30 31 15 0 (N) 899 - 01:16Z 30 30 12 311 (NW) 2601 - 01:48Z 31 31 20 285 (WNW) 250 - 02:18Z 30 30 9 338 (NNW) 23501 - 02:48Z 31 29 11 328 (NNW) 513 - 03:20Z 30 30 17 311 (NW) 1666 - 03:53Z 31 31 13 298 (WNW) 31406 - 04:25Z 31 31 10 311 (NW) 27562 - 04:57Z 31 30 12 341 (NNW) 144 - 05:29Z 31 24 11 359 (NNW) 338 - 06:01Z 31 23 10 346 (NNW) 538 - 06:33Z 31 23 5 352 (NNW) 394 - 07:05Z 31 28 6 0 (N) 162 - 07:38Z 30 28 11 6 (N) 113 - 08:10Z 29 27 16 24 (NNE) 182 - 08:42Z 29 25 15 45 (NE) 246 - 09:14Z 29 19 18 32 (NNE) 178 - 09:46Z 28 20 16 17 (NNE) 145 - 10:18Z 28 20 14 14 (NNE) 132 - 10:51Z 29 20 8 26 (NNE) 153 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- We never opened No interlocks bypassed.
