APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday November 3, 2006 (MJD 54043) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Mike Harvanek ET: Jian Ge Justin Crepp Support: Dan Long Jon Brinkmann Larry Carey French Leger ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Lots of moon and some clouds tonight. Lost about 2 hours at the beginning of the night due to a problem with the guider. Observed ET plates 8028, 8032, 8030, 8033 and 8018. Lost about 2 hours at the end of the night due to clouds. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- High humidity delayed ventilation until 01:06Z. A problem with the guider kept us off the sky until around 03:33Z. To make a long story short, the communications cable coming out of the guide camera was unplugged. Many thanks to French Leger, Jon Brinkmann and Larry Carey for their support in solving the problem. There may also be a problem with the Paralan that was inside the silver guider suitcase. It was swapped out while trying to solve the guider problem. Currently, it is labeled as suspect and is on the cart in the computer room. Jon Brinkmann has the details on this if anyone is interested. There was also a DA problem - id5 and ad3 (I think) were unavailable. Both photo crates and the astro crate were rebooted. We removed the enclosure around 03:00Z, filled the spectro dewars and changed cartridges. 03:33Z ET plate 8028 (cartridge 4). Guide stars on the gotoField. One 50 minute exposure was obtained. 04:44Z ET plate 8032 (cartridge 8). Needed an FK5 to acquire the field. One 50 minute exposure was obtained. 05:54Z ET plate 8030 (cartridge 6). Thought we needed an FK5 to acquire the field but it was just clouds moving in. The clouds thinned enough to trust the guider numbers (scale and focus) starting around 06:25Z. Clouds again became a problem (i.e., no guide stars) starting around 06:45Z. Two 50 minute exposures were obtained. 07:59Z ET plate 8033 (cartridge 1). Needed an FK5 to acquire the field. Clouds were not much of a problem during this plate. One 50 minute exposure was obtained. 09:04Z ET plate 8018 (cartridge 2). Needed an FK5 to acquire the field. One 50 minute exposure was obtained. Clouds were not too much of a problem on this plate either. 10:13Z ET plate 8031 (cartridge 7). Clouds. No guide stars, no FK5 star. We wait. Clouds prevented us from getting any exposures on this plate. 11:45Z Enclosure on, fans off. endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): N/A UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 41221, plate -9999 ------- 00:55 41221 0.0 bias 03:19 41222 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ No reading for cartridge 4, plate 8028.
