APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday May 5, 2007 (MJD 54226) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Viktor Malanushenko Elena Malanushenko Steph Snedden Kaike Pan Dan Oravetz ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakedown and Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Poor weather conditions most of the night. Craig and Steph rebuilt the world and it was messy, but finally everything is okay. We are testing the latest IOP version (v4_33_0) and the latest Watcher (v2_36_0). Shakedown tasks completed: Home/Relax mirrors ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- Craig and Steph rebuilt the world and it was messy. As of 05:00Z, Craig had the MCP in place and we were able to set up as usual and also used the latest test versions of IOP (v4_33_0) and Watcher (v2_36_0). We did not begin ventilation because of high dust (1.0um counts ~3300), clouds and high wind (gusts up to 40 mph), in addition to awaiting all of the software reconstruction from Steph and Craig. Night: ----- 05:05Z - Began ventilation. Doors and louvers open, fans on. 05:30Z - Enclosure off. 06:20Z - Shakedown task: Home/Relax mirrors. Completed as per the documentation. 07:40Z - Enclosure on due to threatening clouds. Ventilation continues. 07:40Z - The PT marker on the cloud cam web page that Jon added to MOP worked, but we're not sure if it turns off when the PT is closed because we closed the PT abruptly in an unclean fashion due to threatening clouds and the PT marking still remained on the cloud cam images. So, whether or not the marking will disappear when the PT is closed normally, we're not sure yet, but we'll test it again tomorrow. 08:05Z - Stopped ventilation because with the high dust counts and clouds there was no point in letting the mirrors collect dust when the prospect of reopening was bleak. 09:36Z - With the clouds not showing any sign of letting up and twilight fast approaching, it's not possible to get a pointing model tonight. We discussed with Steph whether to leave the engineering camera on and we decided to leave it on and try to get the pointing model tomorrow. With the weather conditions as they are, time running out and the engineering camera mounted, this is the point of no return for tonight. 09:38Z - endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): n/a QA Procedures Done (y/n): n/a UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 44633, plate -9999 ------- 05:52 44633 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky Clouds, high wind and high dust counts from start through about 04:30Z. 04:38Z 43 23 14 244 (WSW) 3353 - Partly cloudy 05:10Z 42 24 13 253 (WSW) 3490 - Partly cloudy 05:43Z 42 24 17 250 (WSW) 3270 - Partly cloudy 06:15Z 41 26 15 212 (SSW) 3168 - Partly cloudy 06:45Z 41 26 18 236 (SW) 3171 - Partly cloudy 07:15Z 40 26 13 246 (WSW) 3218 - Mostly cloudy 07:47Z 39 25 16 217 (SW) 3189 - Clouds 08:19Z 39 25 12 264 (W) 3163 - Clouds 08:52Z 39 27 8 253 (WSW) 3205 - Clouds 09:24Z 39 26 8 263 (W) 2980 - Clouds ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 05:05Z - Began ventilation.
