APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday October 18, 2008 (MJD 54758) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Elena Malanushenko (swing) Stephanie Snedden (observer) Dmitry Bizyaev (observer) Nathan De Lee (UF, Marvels team) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! Boss & Segue 1.7h Marvels 8.8h ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Clear night with good to medium seeing. We imaged stripe 79 S between the lambda 132 and 150 (ramps are not included!) with good seeing. We cycled through Marvels Survey plates 3057 (cart 7), 3056 (cart 6), 3055 (cart 5), and 3060 (cart 9). With cart. 9 at AZ ~ 210 Alt ~ 50 deg I found the gang cable significantly tensed, i.e. it dragged something downstairs. It was hard to understand what. All new pre-selection Marvels plate do not map properly. Paul Harding with Cathy and Nathan will work on this problem tomorrow. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- All systems are checked and work properly. Spectro set for 8.5C and did not change. Used cart 3, plate 3144 segue for collimation. Cathy had to work overtime because of plate overlay and mapping problems on the MARVELS cartridges. Cart 4 , segue is mounted. 23:30Z ventilation started Night: -------- 00:25Z enclosure off. Spectro dewars refilled. Imager mounted. 01:10Z Imaging Run 7740 started, bias 01:28Z slew to 79 S, lambda 128 01:30Z Imaging run 7041 for BOSS, stripe 79 S skippy is happy from frame #9 in focus from fr. #17 01:37Z Ramp (run 7741) , fr. 19, lambda 130 01:45Z Science frames 32-152 (run 7741) lambdas 132 - 150 (02:57Z) Ramp: lambda 150-152 (till fr. 178) Seeing was around 1.1" during the exposure We stopped imaging because of tiny cirrus clouds started coming to the sky. 03:40Z cart. 7 plate 3057 mounted (Marvels-Survey). Marvels took calibration. Small delay appeared because fields A and B were not marked at the bottom of the cartridge. Now we know the rule: A goes to sp1, B goes to sp2, and the female gang-connectors are closer to their spectrographs. GSOGTF, good sign because Steph copied old plug-map file from plag-mapper (and changed the cartridge number in it); so the guide fibers are in the same place. 40 min exposure with field B --- 04:55Z cart. 6 plate 3056 mounted (Marvels Survey) Side A plugged after calibration GSOGTF almost --- 05:48Z cart. 5 plate 3055 mounted (Marvels Survey) Field A plugged after calibration fk5 used 40 min Marvels exposure with field A 06:48Z field B was plugged GSOGTF 40 min Marvels exposure with field B --- 07:45Z cart. 9 plate 3060 mounted (Marvels Survey) Field A plugged after calibrations. No guide stars firstly, we crossed more fiducials at AZ. Then fk5 used. 2x20 min Marvels exposure 08:57Z field B was switched after calibration. During the switching between the fields, after field A, I noticed that the gang cable was tensed significantly, i.e. something downstairs was caught by it. I was unable to reproduce the catch in the nighttime. During the time I noticed it the Alt was about 50 degrees, AZ ~ 210 degrees. 1x40 min exposure in the field B 09:40Z switched back to field A after calibrations fk5 used 2x20 min Marvels exposure 10:57Z switched back to field B after calibrations GSOGTF 1x40 min exposure calibration 11:48Z enclosure on, ventilation stopped 11:57Z endNight rejoiced ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- 7739 21:09Z 21:26Z 100 O 54.06 58.37 41 ignore 7740 01:10Z 01:24Z 100 O 114.50 118.04 38 bias 7741 01:30Z 03:16Z 79 S 128.37 154.97 191 science ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- 7741 31 4 93 -4.900 0.136 -2.800 0.160 -0.00472 162 61 7741 35 4 83 -4.700 0.138 -2.900 0.133 -0.00416 162 61 7741 87 4 93 -4.900 0.135 -2.200 0.125 -0.00174 162 62 7741 138 4 53 -4.800 0.139 -1.900 0.093 -0.00066 162 62 7741 179 4 64 -5.000 0.156 -1.600 0.122 -0.00063 161 63 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- 7741 24 1 61 18 63 -1.479 0.177 1.936 0.191 -0.00651 7741 24 1 61 18 59 -1.249 0.192 2.087 0.191 -0.00702 7741 24 1 61 18 64 -0.979 0.175 2.041 0.157 -0.00686 7741 24 1 61 18 68 -0.781 0.175 1.979 0.085 -0.00665 7741 24 1 61 18 66 -0.547 0.167 1.850 0.164 -0.00622 7741 45 1 61 18 49 -1.178 0.130 1.475 0.239 -0.00496 7741 45 1 61 18 58 -0.942 0.152 1.370 0.179 -0.00461 7741 45 1 61 18 50 -0.683 0.185 1.424 0.225 -0.00479 7741 45 1 61 18 36 -0.596 0.226 1.490 0.225 -0.00501 7741 45 1 61 18 48 -0.438 0.137 1.540 0.227 -0.00518 7741 62 1 62 18 54 -1.240 0.232 1.508 0.176 -0.00507 7741 62 1 62 18 67 -0.961 0.144 1.598 0.147 -0.00537 7741 62 1 62 18 65 -0.680 0.144 1.600 0.191 -0.00538 7741 62 1 62 18 73 -0.512 0.161 1.572 0.123 -0.00528 7741 62 1 62 18 40 -0.333 0.165 1.613 0.175 -0.00542 7741 96 1 62 18 30 -0.918 0.157 1.017 0.146 -0.00342 7741 96 1 62 18 51 -0.648 0.133 0.930 0.185 -0.00313 7741 96 1 62 18 44 -0.362 0.137 1.016 0.133 -0.00342 7741 96 1 62 18 40 -0.100 0.157 1.087 0.154 -0.00365 7741 96 1 62 18 41 -0.009 0.183 1.146 0.214 -0.00385 7741 114 1 62 18 28 -1.018 0.142 0.731 0.161 -0.00246 7741 114 1 62 18 39 -0.676 0.147 0.739 0.121 -0.00248 7741 114 1 62 18 46 -0.411 0.130 0.751 0.185 -0.00252 7741 114 1 62 18 37 -0.279 0.137 0.750 0.157 -0.00252 7741 114 1 62 18 32 -0.108 0.152 0.670 0.091 -0.00225 7741 149 1 63 19 21 -0.914 0.196 0.957 0.159 -0.00322 7741 149 1 63 19 25 -0.680 0.123 1.015 0.225 -0.00341 7741 149 1 63 19 28 -0.480 0.107 1.000 0.239 -0.00336 7741 149 1 63 19 16 -0.207 0.105 1.118 0.249 -0.00376 7741 149 1 63 19 26 0.019 0.182 1.087 0.246 -0.00365 7741 165 1 63 19 27 -1.043 0.197 0.724 0.257 -0.00243 7741 165 1 63 19 22 -0.813 0.206 0.669 0.191 -0.00225 7741 165 1 63 19 22 -0.590 0.162 0.766 0.281 -0.00258 7741 165 1 63 19 20 -0.374 0.192 0.869 0.238 -0.00292 7741 165 1 63 19 19 -0.227 0.185 0.953 0.331 -0.00320 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- ----- sequence 55616, plate -9999 ------- 21:14 55616 0.0 bias ----- sequence 55617, plate 3144 ------- 22:18 55617 10.0 flat 22:21 55618 2.0 arc 22:26 55619 3.0 arc 22:28 55620 3.0 arc ----- sequence 55621, plate -9999 ------- 22:43 55621 0.0 bias 22:49 55622 0.0 bias ----- sequence 55623, plate -9999 ------- 03:40 55623 0.0 bias 04:40 55624 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- 03:59Z 7 3057 -38.47 -0.0046 72.89 0.0001 146.39 0.0150 1.000080 04:58Z 6 3056 -45.39 -0.0035 73.73 0.0015 140.17 0.0170 1.000080 05:57Z 5 3055 247.30 -0.0024 67.49 -0.0004 83.18 0.0048 1.000080 06:53Z 5 3055 267.19 -0.0026 72.74 -0.0004 98.21 0.0098 1.000150 07:59Z 9 3060 190.77 0.0003 52.42 0.0006 25.97 0.0269 1.000150 09:09Z 9 3060 213.22 -0.0009 68.46 0.0014 45.39 0.0219 1.000080 10:00Z 9 3060 202.39 -0.0012 44.85 -0.0011 63.00 0.0256 1.000080 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- 03:59Z 7 3057 1.00008 -789 523 50 -38 72.9 8.6 16 193 -- 1.1" 04:58Z 6 3056 1.00008 -789 522 50 -45 73.7 8.6 13 185 -- 1.0" 05:56Z 5 3055 1.00008 -789 532 50 247 67.5 8.3 11 202 -- 1.1" 06:53Z 5 3055 1.00015 -1480 -50 50 267 72.7 8.2 11 198 -- 1.1" 07:59Z 9 3060 1.00015 -1480 -3 50 191 52.4 8.2 11 215 -- 1.8" 09:09Z 9 3060 1.00008 -789 455 -25 213 68.5 8.1 11 211 -- 1.6" 10:00Z 9 3060 1.00008 -789 519 -25 202 44.9 7.6 9 212 -- 1.4" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- 21:15Z 58 25 13 216 (SW) 295 -
