APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday March 26, 2010 (MJD 55282) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Howard Brewington Dmitry Bizyaev ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- MARVELS Science ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Night is lost due to high wind and dust (beginning and middle of the night) and dust and humidity (end of the night). 3.5m got 6K dust inside the closed dome, so, since we had > 100000 dust count in the day time, we would like to ask to check the mirrors for dust and probably CO-clean them. We leave site on generator power since the commercial is not back yet. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- 23:20Z Started the afternoon checkout with wind gusts at 65mph and dust at 68K. 23:30Z We have alarms from the air compressors in the utility room; they were restarted and Mark K. notified. Mark suggested that we switch to generator power. 23:40Z Turned on MARVELS ThAr lamp; we have alarms from MARVELS instrument about temperature and pressure. Nathan was notified. 00:07Z Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda3 142G 129G 6.4G 96% / /dev/sda1 99M 30M 64M 33% /boot /dev/sdb1 917G 842G 29G 97% /data sdssfiles1p:/data1/data 1.8T 106G 1.7T 6% /files 00:12Z Verified that the STUI actors were happy; also checked the status of the hub25m and perms. Issued a 'gcamera simulate off' command. alerts ping, boss ping, gcamera ping, guider ping, mcp ping, msg ping, platedb ping, sop ping, hub status, perms status Night: ------ 00:25Z following recommendation from Mark and Dan, we switched site on generator power, then turned on both air compressors manually. 00:30Z air comressor alarm cleared. MARVELS is still unhappy. After ~ 20 min alarm disappeared. We got "yellow" dust and wind after ~ 4:45Z, but time is not enough to open enclosure, acquire field, and expose MARVELS cartridge for 50 min. Also, seeing is expected to be bad because of temp[erature drop day-night by > 15C. 05:03Z endNight finished ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:46Z 41 0 52 278 (W) 25094 - 00:18Z 39 2 40 271 (W) 24816 - 00:55Z 37 2 45 279 (W) 19156 - 01:29Z 35 2 16 279 (W) 30342 - 02:02Z 34 4 29 275 (W) 23006 - 02:36Z 33 6 16 267 (W) 15940 - 03:09Z 31 9 24 276 (W) 8501 - 03:43Z 30 11 26 285 (WNW) 5758 - 04:16Z 30 12 26 267 (W) 6492 - 04:46Z 29 12 19 270 (W) 6853 - 05:20Z 29 13 19 287 (WNW) 9780 - 05:54Z 28 14 23 292 (WNW) 15673 - 06:26Z 28 15 25 282 (WNW) 5551 - 06:59Z 27 15 33 311 (NW) 4507 - 07:33Z 26 17 17 295 (WNW) 5660 - 08:06Z 26 17 18 315 (NW) 3942 - 08:39Z 26 18 25 305 (NW) 3238 - 09:12Z 25 17 20 295 (WNW) 2902 - 09:45Z 24 15 32 321 (NW) 2952 - 10:16Z 23 15 20 312 (NW) 2968 - 10:48Z 23 15 16 314 (NW) 2272 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Not opened.
